Probably only usable if your IP is in that region? Otherwise I can see people trying to pull some shady stuff.

There is no reason to worry about this since its been in place for a long time already. You need a VPN to buy from another region's store and that alone is not worth the risk to save a few bucks.
There is a potential major positive to this -- more regions with opportunities to trade for cheaper games. It also means more potential price errors which again filters down to the trade market as long as the game isnt region locked.

Publishers set the pricing, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Going to jack up prices even further, I'm betting.

Games, no. When we start seeing game prices going up industry wide and across different platforms, then I'll get concerned about that.
I could see them upping the % of fees on market transactions, but I don't see this as being some sort of inflation event. It could also potentially drive prices down, as new regions will definitely lure in users who previously couldnt purchase or didnt want to purchase in other currencies.
It's much easier to look at this positively than negatively IMO. More regions = more money for Valve which typically will filter down to the users in some respect to encourage even more sales

I'm looking at it as someone who buys for multiple systems, and knows what prices we get here. I'm not looking forward to most prices doubling or more if publishers decide the new currency options means matching the game prices for physical games in those countries.

I am very fearful of this too, hopefully someone like greenman gaming will save us ;) some devs already increase the price here eg Evolve is +20USD(+33.34%), GTAV is + 15USD(+25.00%), Lord of the Rings: War in the North +54USD(+270.14%), they must release they lose sales doing this thou. If they change the currency i'm afraid most will be increased not just evil AAA titles. Glad to see Mortal Kombat X is the same as US even thou it's still just a little bit too dare for me :( Goro!
I wonder if they are still going to change AUS & NZ, it's well past September, fingers crossed in blind hope they don't

I didn't put it on the top of the discussions, steamgifts must have done that =P
Was just googling trying to find out when this might be, when i come across this. This topic is still just as relative as it back then.
Do you think I would have been better to make a new post even thou it's the same topic as this post? =P

You really want to give them a chance to price match EB?
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't care what they do, as long as they add NZD prices.
I'm sick of the damn currency conversion costs.
Comment has been collapsed.
At most, I've paid a few cents going from my ANZ Visa card to Steam.
I'd much more prefer that over doubling the costs of games.
Comment has been collapsed.
Conversion costs is jackshit compared to what the prices might become man, 20 to 50+% more, it's going to be a case of, if gmg doesn't have it, i'm not getting it :(

Baka maging mas mura na dyan sirs hahaha if so, I may have to ask my friends back there to buy some games for me :D
Australian pricing sucks balls. Nakakainis lang

Since I usually buy in Brazilian reais... I can say that Ien price is usually a bit more expensive.
Usually a game that in brazil is around 15 dollars here it would cost closer to 20~.
for example... van helsing franchise, now, is 2000 en(18,81 dollar). In reais, 36,50 (15,96 dollar).
Can somebody tell me the international priec for comparison?

while international price is 20 dollars.
and i forgot about it http://www.steamprices.com/
has already implemented the active prices

Oh, I thought you meant Steam was going to replace wallet with something else >.<

Hmm. Well, not sure if this is gonna be good news or bad news.
Maybe there'll be an option to stick to USD if the conversion rates suck?
Comment has been collapsed.
as a brazilian guy, the conversion rate is 1 USD = 1,75 BRL, which at the time was the real price of BRL in the international market
now with the world economic crisis in the past years and others things, the conversion rate now is 1 USD = 2,2<->2,3 BRL, but steam still sell their games with the old conversion rate of 1 USD = 1,75 BRL
Sorry for the really bad english, i am too tired to think straight

we pay less. as in "meneldur" post, you can see an example: a game that costs 20 USD, steam sell to us costing 36,5 BRL. conversion rate of 1USD= 1,825 , of course it isn't always 1USD=1,75 BRL, but is near
If I would pay today for this game in US currency i would need 45,6 BRL. conversion rate of 1USD = 2,286 BRL.(the real one, not the one that steam use)
and the better of it, is that almost all games are region free

It's actually US$1 to S$1.25 and it has been that way ever since their economy crashed. Of course if Valve wants to do a
US$1 = S$1 they would be in deep sh!t.
Apple dropped the price of their iPads by S$80 in one year because of the conversion rate.

yeah thats why they should just keep it the same for everyone, makes life a lot easier for all. It will be a pain in the arse to work out the pricing over so many countries with exchange rates always changing

Im on EU2, one of the most shitty regions but Lord Gaben is giving me money
Comment has been collapsed.
Not even close. EU2 is the countries in the east of EU. We get the same prices on everything (except only Valve games - those are the only fair ones) as EU1, but the earnings in these countries are more like in Russia. Compare e.g. Germany (EU1) with Poland (EU2) - the polish earn on the average 1/4 of what the average german earns, yet they have the same game prices. Central Europe - everything costs like in the West, but everybody gets paid like in the East.
Comment has been collapsed.
We are also in EU2 and the average paycheck in Serbia is below 300 eur, with only programmers and politicians having above 550 eur. Some people work for 50 euro per month (you don't see many of those on Steam, though). Compare that to any EU1 country and you'll gonna die of laughter. Sadly.

Now this is potentially some big news.
Remember at the start of the year when Steam announced new curencies on Dev Day?.
Seems like it's finally coming on September 16 for some countries. Just got an email about it a few hours ago. FYI Steam is looking to support the Australian dollar, the Canadian dollar, the Indonesian rupiah, the Japanese yen, the Malaysian ringgit, the Mexican peso, the New Zealand dollar, the Norwegian krone, the Philippine peso, the Singapore dollar, the South Korean Won, the Turkish Lira, the Thai baht, and the Ukrainian hryvnia (in the future). Not all the countries will have their currencies changed on Sept 16, but many will.
Local currency conversion dates
So, lower prices or terrible conversion rate? Guess it depends on your country. The retailers in my country seems to price their products at roughly the same price as Steam, with disc versions 2 to 3 dollars more expensive.
Email I got
Edit: Wow some stuff are actually cheaper now for me. L4D2 and Deus Ex are ONLY $5 SGD ($4 USD) for me now!
Edit 2: Canadian Dollar and Norwegian Krone to be added on 8 Oct. Stay tuned for price changes!
