Hey people of steamgifts!

So I need help deciding if its worth buying a Nintendo 3DS XL for $120.

So far I've only targeted few games that I have interest on, but still, I don't know if I should buy it, because of the small library of games the handheld has.

What do you think? Should I? or should I not?

Update:
Thanks to everyone who voted and stated their opinion! As a result am going to buy the 3DS XL looking that it has a lot of good reviews from the community here. I convinced the seller so now am going to buy it for only $100!

Thank you again Steam Gifts community!

Worth Buying?

Yes buy it!
No, poop!

You can still use regular DS games in the 3DS, so the effective library size is actually quite large. As for if you should or should not buy it, that I can't really say.

Depends ... on:

  • how badly you want to play those games
  • if you are willing to pay top DALLA for almost all good games (Zelda/Mario +++ ones)
  • like playing on handhelds (personally i do not unless theres no choice, obviously since~ 2011 there are too many choices)
^ barely ever touched the 3DSXL's i have/had (lent them once or twice, gifted or re-sold to get the latest Zelda Edition lol ...)

I really want to play the games, specially a rerun of my favorite Zelda games, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The only problem is my budget to buy the games, probably I'll be able to buy a game after a month of the 3DS purchase.

Yeah that's the problem right now, am on a small budget so I can't afford to expend a lot of money on 3DS games...I can probably lend one or two from a friend, but eventually I'll have to return them.

I'll probably be able to buy a game a month later after IF I purchase this 3DS XL.

They have sales, but they aren't frequent. Though with the size of most games, you will be occupied in between sales pretty well. Especially if you get something like Etrian Odyssey or Shin Megami Tensei IV.

The only downside is you can't play gba games on it. That's a real bummer. Other than that, it's a great purchase.

You can emulate GBA games on your phone nowadays, though. You don't need a console for that.

My 10 years old brother has a 3DS XL (my parents bought it from a friend whose relative is probably a thief, kinda sad), and I have to admit, it's pretty cool. The pokemon games seem reinvented, if you know what I mean. And then there is that MGS 3 Snake Eater for 3DS too. It has a very good catalogue of games.

I say go for it!
I had a regular 3DS for about a year, then my birthday rolled around and I figured I'd treat myself to a New 3DS XL. Best purchase ever.

It's about the same size as a regular XL, and after playing it for awhile I tried a game on my roommate's normal 3DS....HOW THE HELL DID I PLAY ON THAT?! rofl.

It really depends on the games you want to play, because having it with lousy games will put you off and probably neglect it.
Personally when I first got it, I was bored with it as I only bought Mario 3D Land and wanted to sell it but when Animal Crossing came out, I forgot all about the boring stuff.
The games for it ain't cheap, so you gotta think about what type of games you'd want to spend hours on and not get bored of. :]

Except for Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, I got all of my games for free!

To do this, you need Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
Google TBT Forums. It's an ACNL forum. Sign up, and post a LOT. Posting gets you small amounts of their virtual currency, called TBT Bells. You can also sell villagers or items for small amounts of TBT Bells. People are willing to sell game download codes for Bells, but last I saw it was in the 8000-12000 bells range for a game download code, so it takes awhile to save up. I made bells by selling Pokemon, there are people who buy them.

No problem! I dunno how efficient it is now, I haven't been back on TBT in several months. The 'economy' there might have shifted.

If you are into Nintendo games then go for it, since the 3rd party support is not as big as PS Vita

If you like Nintendo games then it's a yes, but I'd recommend you to get the N3DS, it's way better than the 3DS XL.

I never regretted buying a 3DS - but I do love Pokemon...

I bought my 3DS XL (black :D) over a year ago and no regrets. The only thing that bothers me is Nintendo games
wont lose much value so the games are even after years quite expensive but i got some Special Editions (Zelda Majoras Mask ftw). If you want one buy the N3DS XL if you plan on getting the exclusive games for N3DS. But even only for 3DS games (and ofcourse the old DS games) i think its worth it.

Yes : IF. Go through the library of games. If you can find at least 20 games you want to play and 10 of them are budget or under $20. I'd say go for it. That's a good way to start.

That's what I was thinking since I saw the Sky3DS, am only wondering if it will be compatible with later firmwares?

So far they've been doing a good job on making Sky3DS compatible with the latest firmware. Just do research before you update your 3DS to the latest firmware and you should be fine.
