I do kind of wish there was a better system. It feels very generic. I've actually gotten to the point that I only post something if I can think of something to say about the game itself... As well as a far more substantial 'thank you' should I even win something.
"Thanks!" posts have become the H.A.G.S. -name in the like... middle and highschool yearbooks for when nobody had anything to really say to one another, but liked that the teachers didn't expect them to do anything for the last 3-4 days of school.
The three giveaways I had got 28, 28, and 30 posts. I have never read them. I'm 99% sure it is just 86 'thanks' posts. I don't know if other people who give stuff away actually go through and read, but I don't imagine many do nowadays. They aren't going to cross-reference your name and look for your 'thanks' post in the thread and put your name in a black book to later be hunted down and quartered if you don't. If you have something nice to say, or interesting about the game etc. go for it, but don't feel pressured into posting something in every single giveaway you enter.

I saw many people that actually do check if you thanked and ridicule you on all available chat rooms if you won and did not post a thanks. But that is better than the ones that check your account everyday to see if you played the game you won.

I always post a thank you unless I forget or am unsure about the giveaway. Once in a while I do have a genuine question for the gifter about the gift. I also try to read through the comments.

Don't read the Thank You posts if you don't like it. Cynical people and their hate for Thank You's.

I like how it went from this: "melexm: If you take a look at the comments section in every page, people repeatedly write: "Thanks/Thx"... I know that it gives an appreciation mark, but why not use a thank you button?" TO THIS: "Brian Farnet: People saying thanks bothers you? Honestly, there are more important things to care about, go find one and spend your time on that instead" Ahhh... the interwebz... such a fine establishment.

A thank you button would be nice, but don't get rid of the comments.
