Collectors, bots, addicts ;)
Also people who don't care what it is as long they get a +1 in their account
Edit: There may be 1% who actually want to try out the simulator games, apparently germany is a big market for them

So there I was, had accumulated a whole bunch of bundle trash so I do the standard 1 hour GA to get that crap pushed out as fast as possible.
did you really just say this and then complained about people who entered for this trash you wanted to get rid of as fast as possible? i mean, what do you care why people enter? you wanted it gone. it's not really worth anything. so who cares what happens with it...

He doesn't sound angry to me, just curious.
No need to assume the worst

don't portray your assumptions as me having said them. I did not complain about anything - just want to know who enters these GA's.
Comment has been collapsed.
well, it sounded like you wanted to imply the right thing to do is to only enter for games you want to play, and those people didn't do that. but ok, maybe that was a little far fetched.

I wouldn't expect anyone wants to play rail cargo simulator lol or are there actually people out there who play these types of games that most people see as trash?
Comment has been collapsed.
i guess there might be 2 or 3 people on this planet who actually do. ^^
whatever, my point was if the game has no value anyway, people can enter just for +1 in my book. the 2 or 3 people who would care might not even be on SG, so... ;)

One man's trash is another man's treasure.
There's a market for these games or they wouldn't exist.
Also, they're not all crap.

well you should have sent me a message over steam - i would have given them all to you ;)

and after reading my own post, i realize how aggressive it might appear. that wasn't even my attention. long day at work. i better go watch the rest of my movie now... ^^

just want to know who enters these GA's
You should subpoena Valve in order to get these people’s personal information.

Who is actually playing these games?
Open the store page and take a look at reviews - there are at least 15 users, that played and reviewed that game, and at least 8 that bought it via steam store as a gift, so they had strong intention of spending money on that. If you assume that 10% of players are doing reviews, you'll have a number like 150, which seems quite decent.
On SG, I'd say that maybe 1/3 of that, so like 50 users actually wanted to try that title, mostly out of curiosity. Maybe they enjoy simulator games, maybe they want to check it out, or maybe steam store page convinced them. 50 number is absolute maximum, I always assume around 10% of entries to be people that want the game, and this is already too high for mixed bundled games, but still a nice assumption.
So what about the rest? People that join anything for +1. There are LOTS of them, actually people that are carefully joining giveaways are in minority - majority joins everything they can, of course assuming some efficiency so taking in account number of copies, entries, level and time, because points are finite (otherwise we'd have 10x that amount of entries in every giveaway).
Will your winner play your game? Unlikely. Will the winner be truly grateful for the win? Unlikely. Will you make somebody's day better at least by a tiny percent of +1 library? Very likely.
Of course it matters for people what they win, because everybody would like to win all upcoming AAA games, but people are also happy just to see that +1 win icon, and I'd probably join that game myself if I didn't own it already. I always suggest to avoid public giveaways if you care about your entries - even invite-only one yields to better results, while whitelisting people you like yields to best ones (for you, because that's the starting point). That however doesn't mean that we should stop making public giveaways altogether, but it's a good thing to be prepared for "incidents".

I have no doubt that when I do AAA GA's for my private groups and WL that people actually enter because they want to play the game - I just wonder about the bundle trash. I suppose a +win and game #5,754 in my steam library seem to make people feel better about themselves so more power to them for that... not my cup of tea though.

I also seem to recently roll my eyes at other peoples 'private' GA's that are what I personally consider garbage bundle games... I don't send bundlestars garbage to my WL because I assume they wouldn't want them lol - just trying to see if I am incorrect on that assumption. Just looking to frame things in the proper context.

Didn't you post some similar comment some few days ago and backpedaled then, when others argued that someone's trash is another's treasure?
I'm not part of any groups that share fancy AAA games frequently, but I enjoy quality bundle games not any less. I certainly wouldn't have entered that Rail Cargo Simulator giveaway, but you generalize a bit too much. I appreciate better chances to win bundle games via whitelists. No reason to disparage those who give or what they give.

yes and no. The comment you are refering to is when i said 'not every game in a bundle is garbage' and that 'i find humble bundle games to be of good quality' but i find the majority of games in the bundlestars bundles to be complete garbage.
You misunderstood what I said - if people truly find value to these games from the bundlestars bundles that i call garbage, then i should put them in GA's to my WL and not to public... the doubt I have is that people truly find value or enjoyment from them. If they are just going to a collector that wont play the game, then I see no reason to keep that game inside my WL/groups.

Ah, I wouldn't rate Bundlestars too low. Yes, overall seen they can't compete with Humble Bundle. But they recently had some AGEOD bundle that >97% here would consider trash. To me it was an amazing deal, simply because I love grand strategy games.
More popular bundles from Bundlestars usually include at least 2-4 good or even great games.
Anyway, in my opinion you shouldn't expect people to deliver the same quality/quantity to your giveaways in whitelist giveaways. You are supposed to add people that you like and you grant them access to whatever you can or want to share. There is nothing more about it. Nothing to question, nothing to debate.

i get every humble bundle - there is always at least 1 or 2 games that I actually want to play and then 1 or 2 that I already own that I have played. Not so much the case with bundlestars. I suppose its like walmart vs target... but my personal preference is humble bundle :D

oh come on Star! Look at the current bundle! I paid 9.99 and activated miscreated. I love prison architect - its one of my favs - I would have activated that if I didnt already own it. I have stronghold crusader 2 from way back in the day, and I have punchclub as well. So for me that would have been 4 games for 9.99!

Good for you, doesn't have anything I want. And that's just the point, different people want different games. And unless your groups are based on everyone liking some genre of games, there still might be 5+ that want whatever you deem fit only for public. Unless you ask in the group you will never know. :)

I love winning free things, even if it's bundle trash. I always say thanks, even if it's super unlikely that I'll ever even try to play that game. It's the joy of winning that makes it fun, not the win itself - at least for me. I have enough of games for my entire life, and enough of good games for at least 5 following years, so I could simply stop and say "hey, you don't need more games" - I said that to myself back when I reached 1k of games owned. Now I'm joining things just for the sake of having fun, and I'm still super-happy if I manage to win something nice that I wanted to get - be it another +1, or a nice game. I buy bundles for the same reason - to fill my account with another +X, and give away leftovers to other people, to make them happy, even if they never manage to play the game.

Main problem is that the great/wishlisted/AAA games get several thousand entries while the bundled crap gets couple hundred. So some don't want to waste their time entering thousands and probably getting nothing, when they can at least win something with the same effort. At least that's how I see it.

Rail Cargo Sim does not even have cards, so maybe game count or hours played accumulators?
Comment has been collapsed.
nothing wrong with collecting. if people actually play these kinds of games i would prefer to share it with my groups/WL but if these games are usually for collectors then Id just assume keep them public.
Comment has been collapsed.
I personally find it a bit strange when people that win games from me actually play them (;
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll admit, I'll enter contests to win games that I'm only barely intersted in playing. Why not? At a 0.25% chance of winning, I'm not really going to end up with a ton of crap games, and if I get a tiny bit of fun or learn something about what genres I like and don't like, what's wrong with that?
And I don't have a traditional 9-5 job, so I'm often on SG on weird hours.

Ok, this might not sound like a serious question but this is a serious question to me and in my mind I really need some type of answer.
So there I was, had accumulated a whole bunch of bundle trash so I do the standard 1 hour GA to get that crap pushed out as fast as possible. What was the game? Really any title would suffice but let's pick one at random:
Rail Cargo Simulator
Yep, sounds like a real riot huh? Well apparantly 400+ some people during non-peak hours, during a random week day, during a 1 hour GA, thought this game was totally worth entering for. HUH? Who is actually playing these games? Or are these just collector accounts?
