Ah! Another Cussler fan. I started reading his Oregon and NUMA series about a year and lets say "I'm hooked."
Had a some free time for once a few months ago and read 8 Cussler books in 2 weeks. Borrowed 4 from the library, went back a week later and handed them all back and the librarian said "Didn't you enjoy them? You returned them quick!" to which I replied "Nope, I'm here to return them and get another 4 out..." The look on her face was priceless.

Really anything by John Green. I've read his first three books and they're great.

I don't want to be rude. But certainly Dan Brown's books are not good. They might be entertaining to some point, but not good.

It was not adressed to you only. I just wanted to say my opinion. I've read several and they are kind of entertaining tbh but I don't really like his style nor his "sensationalism"

I just finished the lost symbol and thought it was a pretty impressive read

The Witcher by A.Sapkowski! Especially if you are polish, I have heard varied opinions about the english translation.
Everything from Yann Martel is also a good read.
Shantaram - a masterpiece.

Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, captivating!

Jurassic Park, anything by Mark Twain, Agatha Christie if you like mysteries, Mortal Engines if you like Steampunk, the Map of Time if you like books that are supposed to be about time travel but are actually about sex...
If you give me anything specific I can probably recommend. I read so much random crap
FORGOT THE BEST BOOK EVER. MONTE CRISTO

If you enjoyed Dino Park (i.e. the book, not the movie), I suggest you give other titles by Michael Crichton a try. Start with Congo, hop over to Andromeda Strain, then Binary, Sphere, Timeline and Rising Sun (Nippon Connection), they all were transformed into movies and TV shows. Prey, Next and Airframe are worth a read as well.

Alright, thanks for the advice. I've been meaning to give his other books a try but wasn't sure where to start.

I'd recommend Sir Arthur Conan Doyle rather that Miss Christie for mysteries.

Depends I guess. Both are great. Not all of Christie's books are mind-blowing, but some are simply genius

Opinions D:
I just never got into Agatha's books, and my mom is a great fan of her and used to try to shove them in me when I lived there. But I simply didn't really like them.

Anything by Dan Brown, LoTR series (so also Hobbit) and hell I even enjoyed the Harry Potter books but then again I read those a long time ago.

I just asked this. Is difficult to recommend without knowing one's likes and dislikes.

Isn't it? I just feel like I needed to point it out as it's horribly unknown and is one of the main sources (if not the only one) from 1984, which is kinda overrated.
Also as far as distopyan novels are concerned and as iqqobo pointed out. Brave New World is quite a good choice for a read too.

This^. Also "Anansi Boys" is less epic but also great.
On my part I'd recommend Carter Beats the Devil
Edit: Also Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell: A Novel

The Malazan Book of the Fallen
It is a long (10,000 pages) series, but well worth it!

You want classics? Well the only one I can remember that could possibly fall into that category is:
are the only ones that come to mind.

Twilight books, but the movies are even better.......xD
ok, serious answer: I like to read a book series from Wolfgang Hohlbein, but I'm not sure it's been released in other languages as well, translated by myself it would be called: The Chonicles of the Immortals, which is about vampires ^^

Here in the forums, we get a lot of request for suggestions. Anime, Movies and TV shows are all well covered, but what about books/novels?
While not a classic or even well known, I have recently started, or rather restarted reading the Xanth series by Peirs Anthony. I am currently on the 3rd of the series even though Ive read a far number, about half, of them already.
So Steamgifts, what is a great book or series to read? It can be a classic like Moby Dick, 10,000 leagues under the Sea, Tom Sawyer, or something else such as Metro, Sunshine, Hitchhiker's Guide.
