Just out of curiosity, can a group post a public give away that will pop up on the give away feed?
Or are any giveaways in groups strictly within the group and no one can actually see what the group is without being given a link to the actual group like this one? https://www.steamgifts.com/group/e4LC7/igso

I want to get more members in my group but I'm not sure on my restrictions, still trying to understand how this place works. Sorry!

Is it safe to assume that group recruitment is the only place people can see the group and give away together?
Interesting

Not really sure what you mean...
If you make a giveaway for a group, only group members can see it. Even if you share a direct link to the giveaway, only group members can enter it; others will be told they're not a member of the group.
If you want more people to join your group, making a thread about it is a good start. Putting it in the group recruitment section would be the best way to do that.

Create a public giveaway and post in the description about your group so you can advertise it is one way to do it.. Also, make a invite only giveaway and put a link in a thread like this with the giveaway so anyone can enter who reads the thread. If there are no added restrictions, anyone can access the giveaway who has read the thread

If you can allow afford* multiple giveaways:

  • I would make a group recruitment option, with group-only (long-term) giveaways in it - this motivates people to join
  • I would make some public giveaways, linking either to the group recruitment topic, or writing the recruitment-text there, with the additional (group only) giveaways linked there as well.

Keep in mind that not everyone reads group recruitment topics (I for one, barely read any and join even fewer), and don't expect many people to read description of public giveaways. People tend to ignore the blatant " EXTRA GIVEAWAY HERE" links in description, because they just don't read it.

Cheers for the advice man. I kept it short and simple to keep interest. https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/VG8wo/wasteland-2-directors-cut

Groups don't make giveaways, users do. One of the options is to make a giveaway exclusive to a group that you're a member of. You can make public giveaways for anyone to enter, or group giveaways that only group members can enter. Group members can see group giveaways in the give away feed on the front page. Non group members can not see a group giveaway, no matter where you post it. They can follow the link to the giveaway but only get an error page about not being a member of a group. They don't even get to see which group it is they need to join.

To promote your group you can go to the group recruitement subforum and make a post giving the link to the group, any instructions on how to join, and links to giveaways that you think will sway people into wanting to join. Be aware that a lot of people requesting to join will be ones that join every single group out there and have absolutely zero interest in your group specifically, so having some rules really does help keep the place tidy and friendly.

Good luck!
