There are seven new currencies being added to Steam which have been referenced in code after last Steam maintenance:

Swedish krona
Bulgarian lev
Croatian kuna
Czech Koruna
Danish krone
Hungarian Forint
Romanian leu

Source: SteamDB

See if your currency is already on Steam here (does not yet include the new 7 listed above).

It will be interesting to see how this impacts game prices for these countries, if at all. On reddit, some people think this is an opportunity for publishers to raise prices for certain countries, while other people think that these will result in prices that are straight conversions from EUR and can prevent the need for currency conversion fees in some cases. What do you think? Its all a grey area to me.

Did your country's currency just get added to Steam? If so, what do you think?

No, my country does not have a currency in Steam or my currency is potato

I have the € so mine is in it for a long time and crazy high but hope now that they add more currency it gets more affordable for people from those countries to buy games!

Do you think we will benefit from this? I'm not entirely optimistic, but I'm usually not optimistic about anything...
Also isn't it wierd that we set out to change our currency to Euro when we joined the EU over 16 years ago, and now even on Steam cought up and we get to pay in our own currency?

Just hope Swedish krona gets the same prices as Norwegian krone. Our currencies basically have the same value (1 SEK = 0,98 NOK) so it would make sense. Also NOK is usually a bit cheaper than EUR prices so that will be nice.

I want the same for the Danish krone but that's probably too much to ask. I guess I should be happy if games stop being 5%-15% more expensive in Denmark than in Norway :)

Well DKK is quite a bit more expensive compared to NOK so that wouldn't be fair if you had same prices (by that I mean 299 NOK = 299 DKK). Let's hope the pricing gets fair for everyone. I'm tired of having to pay 1% currency conversion every Steam transaction too :p

As it is now, games are more expensive in Denmark (according to Augmented Steam; I only checked a few games), so maybe it's fair that we get them cheaper from now on ;)

But as I said, that's probably too much to ask...

Yes since Sweden and Denmark have the same prices.

So now I'd be able to get most games at a higher price than most other regions in Levs instead of Euros? Happy day! [/s]
(And if they actually do lower the prices to a reasonable level, cuz someone wished for it on a monkey's paw or something, then I probably wouldn't be able to gift to most of the world... there really is no winning with this system, is there?)

I am from Croatia which is economically weak country, but I don't think we'll get regional price reductions because we are in the European Union and I think there are some laws that would prevent steam from doing that (they wouldn't be allowed to geoblock our purchases I think and they might even have a law that they can't have different pricing among countries in the union but I'm not 100% sure, if someone knows I'd love to know).

I think it would be only true if Valve was a european company but since it is american, it can over rule these laws.
Just examine games on steamdb, i've seen many times that polish users have to pay more or less than other EU users.

Interesting, you and leniu are giving me some hope and slightly getting me hyped to see how it goes for my country. Cheers.

Prices in Polish zloty are usually a bit cheaper than € and we are able to gift to EU even if the price difference is bigger than the usual 10%. I was skeptical at first when they announced Polish currency, but it turned out pretty good if I have to say ;)

Alright cool, now you're giving me hope. I could sure use a regional pricing with cheaper games because man are they expensive for our standards over here.

I am from Czechia and i always was worried about that, but Valve almost killed giving Steam gifts, so maybe it will not be that bad. Also, we are not as strong as other € country, so we could get cheaper prices on games (i guess max 10%). Otherwise i dont care about it, i am really used to calculate with € and $ price for games.

As someone who has visited your country and enjoyed it, that's my hope for you and other gamers there as well. I'm aware that the Koruna isn't as strong as the Euro, but I know that the cost of living in Czechia is lower than some other parts of the EU as well.

I am glad to hear that :)
About cost of living i would say it is true, especially in big cities it is really expensive in other countries.

in the meantime i purchase many food in Austria instead of Hungary because many products cheaper there than here while here the salaries about half of the salaries than there + same product, from same companies has much lower quality here. It is a fact that companies deliver the worse quality products to East EU, EU still not doing anything about it because they see us here as just subhumans and slaves.

Our region would be significantly richer if in 2004, instead joining the EU, POL-SVK-ROM-HUN-CZE-CRO-BUL form our own union instead.

This could pave the way for publishers to sell regionally restricted games in those regions, but unfortunately, that doesn't mean those games will also be cheaper.

Now need to invest my wallet into items to avoid the inflation i would get by having a HUF currency, before this change goes life and valve convert my wallet.

Not sure we will get cheaper prices tho, -20% would be fair at least for HUN-ROM-CRO-BUL-CZE, just like for POL, I dont know what the steam suggested discount for them.

The biggest joke on steam is that the most expensive region is EUR usually always, but it should be Suisse/Switzerland and Norway. Funny, that games cheaper in Norway than in Macedonia or Albania:-)

I don't buy from Steam often enough to compare price differences. Just being able to read the prices in the currency I use instead of EUR is going to be so nice. No more approximate calculations in my head or looking up a currency converter :D
