It seems that many people complain about how either it takes a long time to deliver a gift or to get receive feedback. In order to fix this problem, I was thinking that instead of giving the game to the winner afterwards, it was given to Steam Gifts beforehand instead. When the time is up, the site instantly delivers it to the winner. This ensures that the game is delivered and received quickly. Of course, if the game is a key, the winner still needs to check if it is valid. This would mean changing the system to valid and invalid, but both sides can benefit much faster.

I have a better idea. They can make a bot, problem solved. ;)

The April Lottery for the 16% group is implementing an inventory system, if it works, we'll make it public in May to the forums here. Then you can have your instant gratification and we can keep sg pure.

its a great idea, but it has a bad side.
rerolling a giveaway would be impossible since the gift is sent instantly... only that makes me say no

And who would pay for all the staff required to handle all the gifting?

Why staff required? Either it sends a key like dev giveaways or it sends the redeem gift url for a gift. No staff needed.

Instant my ass. Playblink has a bot and submissions take about a week to credit, and wins take a week and a half to be received. PB is a LOT smaller then SG.

This would be easier with gifts as you don't want a key jumping through multiple people. That just leaves more people to accuse when and if an issue arises.

Even if it was automated, there would obviously be human interaction as someone had to create and setup the bot and as such, could always lead to abuse.

user: but my bioshock infinity preorder key worked when i gave it to staff. you guys owe me a working key.

Staff: if WE replaced the key shouldn't it go to the winner?

user: SHUTUP AND BUY ME BIOSHOCK INFINITY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if this was a joke or your way of saying you can't think of anyway that this could go wrong.

Think of how many people jumped on my GalaGiveaways is evil bandwagon. Whether SteamGifts did anything wrong, I can imagine there would be a post saying they did a group of people blindly following.

Better safe than sorry!

Then you would need more staff, more devs and more support. I think it works fine as it is.

It sounds like an impractical approach to an issue that can be frustrating. Steam Gifts has set up a great program here for people who want to share some great games. I've been fortunate in my experiences when I get a key though, I make sure it works and get the game installed into my library asap. When I see that it works, I mark it as received. Back to SG though...they're busy enough The person doing the giveaway & the receiver should be worked out between those two people. If there's a problem after the 7 days, then get support involved. The system you propose isn't practical and way more complicated that it should be. All ideas need to start from somewhere keep on trying =)

You get 7 days to send/receive the game, the only people pleased by your proposition would be really impatient ones, and they shouldn't participate in time-based giveaways anyway.

I see no need for this, the site rules state a 7-day period in which to send the gift and that's fine.

I like personally adding the winner and handing over the game myself. Makes it feel more personal.

I wouldn't want to just feed games to a bot and let it give them out, I would likely stop gifting if this was the case.
