I suppose this will be slightly more convenient than pressing alt+tab and launching iTunes. Now, if Steam turned this into a music distribution platform, then we'd really be in business.

I just use iTunes as an external program

I've often had lag/crashing problems when trying to listen to music in game so hopefully this will help...

But I can listen music using itunes without this feature, the only complain is to change not randomly the music I have to minimize the game. And about listening music while playing, sometimes when I play Minecraft I listen some music, but practically never when playing Steam games, but with 5.1/7.1 headsets you can listen music and voices in games, since sound goes from different channels, I tried in many games.
They could also add an equalizer to this Steam feature, but I will have to disable the Windows one if I would plan to use the Steam one.

I'm hoping they include listening to internet radios such as Pandora afterwards.

Will this only be avaliable for Big Picture?

I'm not sure I understand the point. I wish they sold music, tv series and movies like games though.

Problem with iTunes is, correct me if I'm wrong, you need an iTunes device to use it. If not, then the library option has never worked for me.

Don't really see the point of it as I'd rather use an external program. If Steam starts selling music, it would have to be DRM-free and you should be able to choose the file format/codec. Otherwise it's just another crappy online music store.

I hope for integrated streaming platform, like Spotify or whatever, but ACTUALLY ACCESSIBLE TO ME. IMAGINE IF THEY WOULD ACTUALLY LET ME PAY FOR LISTENING TO MUSIC INSTEAD OF PIRATING.

I usually play music from my mobile phone stereo, so is kinda useless. But heck it, joined the group, moved by curiousity mostly.

This is actually a crucial feature Steam OS needs in order to dominate the living room

Do you guys really need this? All those funds and energy could go into some other Steam related development, imho.

Well, if I want to listen music I just turn on Winamp.

Not sure why steam bothered with this feature. Maybe it's directed on their steam machines this time. I can definitely stream my music from one pc to another with stardock acoustic bridge, or steam's own streaming feature.

I can also definitely use my own music player to maintain my library, shuffle it and mix how loud it is with additional dsp effects added.
