Hiding data != Not storing data in the first place
Oh and since the trend here seem to be to try and show how smart we are with clickies:
Data normalisation means not storing repeated data which means a more optmized site

Yeah but in terms of storage "thank you" is not much smaller than everything we have just typed here now; in other words, what your saying doesn't matter. What CG has been doing is working fine. You've only been here for a month, this site has been around for over a year so far; CG knows what he is doing.

I never said CG didn't know what he was doing.. goodness me! Are you seriously jumping down my throat for making sensible suggestions? :/
You aren't thinking of the big picture, at all. What we've typed on here is in one thread and is a one off. The thank you notes extend across that entire year of site usage on every single giveaway post, and will continue to grow (though they are probably archived at some point).
Anyway I don't really see why I should have to defend myself like I've done something wrong by giving friendly suggestions on site improvements. Ciao.

If you are going to police "repeat" threads so dilligently, I suggest you go and post in every single giveaway thread, telling every single user how terrible they are for posting a thanks. ;)
And then be sure to tell yourself off, for repeating yourself across multiple threads.

Actually I'll add to this that the plugin is likely doing a full search on the steamgifts DB and then doing it's own search within that, which if anything is bad for site traffic. Every person using that plugin is doign a "find all" every time they hit the button.
I am guessing this is the case since the plugin mentions it's search is slower than a site search. But if it's accessing the steamgifts DB directly through optimized queries then I forgive it. :)
Anyhooo.. like I said, the database size suggestion has nothing to do with this plugin, and furthermore the two filters I suggested are something I feel would get a lot of use and be simple to implement.

1, Because only a small amount of users will use the plugin, and it's functionality that (arguably) should be as standard.
2, Because (unless the author can tell me otherwise) the plugin is likely less efficient than using the site directly for DB filters. And worse case scenario the plugin actually causes more site traffic because of what it is doing behind the scenes.
3, Because it would make the site even better, and seriously.. where's the harm in that?

1: Most of the users who don't use are the dumb ones who don't read the FAQ so in other words, no reason to care about them
2: Coming from someone who actually uses it, it dose it's job very efficiently
3: We have much more important things to be concerned with. One problem at a time and seeing as the Addon takes care of it, there other things that should be dealt with first.

You shouldn't call other people dumb. Even if they do read the FAQ, a lot of people just don't like addons. I'm one of them.
The addon hides things, that doesn't mean it's taking care of any underlying problems at all.
I'd be interested in clarification on exactly how the addon communicates with steamgifts.

Then ask the creator, and it takes care of the problem of filters. However CG has ran the site it seems to work and optimized pretty well so like I said there are more problems to worry about other than optimization. And once you've been around hear long enough, you will realize how idiotic the people who haven't read the rules are. Doesn't matter how long they've been hear; some people who have been here longer than me still seem to break the major rules. So yes those people are dumb for not reading the FAQ. Another point is that people seem to make a lot of threads asking questions that are answered by the FAQ; there is a reason it's Frequently Asked Questions lol. Yours may not be specifically answered by it but many people's are and its dumb of them not to look there 1st. <sorry for that rant part.

Oh man, I didn't know this would be another community like WoW forums. I'll leave the trolls to froth at their mouths a bit for no good reason.
Site admin(s): if you see this, then I hope you know I am making the suggestions in good faith. :)

Contributor filters are in the SG Enhancment mod; giveaways ending in less than 1h can be viewable on the top anyway so that would be useless; you are very lazy if you need a template to thank; the entries button is already clickable; what?

If these are already on the site somewhere, I apologise for my muppet-ness!
Could you consider adding filters for:
Also..
I know there will be mixed feelings here but - rather than waste forum (database) space on all the "thanks!" posts, what do you think of this?
1, Users can create a "thank you" template. By default it's just a simple "Thanks - [username]"
2, On a giveaway, the "nnn entries" button is clickable, doing so lists all applicants with their "thank you" template.
3, The forum of the giveaway becomes a place for discussion and questions.
I know this is less personal and there's a kind of warm feeling when people take the time to thank you, but it depends if you think the forum should be for discussion or thank you notes. And as per my orignal point, this change would save a lot of database space as you are only storing one "thanks" text field per user.
