So, some time ago there were rumors about Chinese New Year Sale (AFAIK, their New Year happens next Monday). Was there any reason for those rumors (like leaked translation page), or was that just some wishful thinking and smaller number of Weeklong deals is just GabeN trolling people or just some bug?

Well, few years ago we didn't had weekly sales, then one day they happened :P

Was pretty sure there will be no "bigger" sale this week, but smaller number of Weeklong deals (usually there's like 100 games, only before Big Sales there's less of them) made me remember those CNYS rumors.

There are massive delays, because they are party like never.
I found some googled "Chinese new year sales" , so I guess I heard something wrong

Exactly what I thought. They'd probably named the sale as Spring Sale or something though

Due to the fact that steam has recently removed US$ restriction in Asia, I'm 99% sure that there is gonna be a Chinese New Year Sale sometime this week, since Chinese/Taiwanese consumers are now able to purchase steam games with their own currencies.

New year is undoubtedly best time for Steam to promote their platform as they are trying to open the Asia Market.
eg, Korea,Taiwan,China Hong Kong, Japan

Would this be a sale just for them or everyone in the world? lol

steam will end up making a sale for each holiday in the world, just to grab more money from people...

There were very low numbers of weekly deals just before the Winter sale, Halloween sale, etc. So when I saw it I was hoping that something interesting would be happening later this week. But I'm also hoping tomorrows Humble Bundle will have everything on my wishlist for $1 and I'll probably be disappointed there also...

My secret goal is to give away more games here than I own. How am I going to do that if I go buy another 500 for myself?

By giving away another 500 games too! :P

That would be nice. This is the part of the year that has always had the biggest gap in Steam sales, so it makes sense to fill it with something to keep us busy until Summer. I've gotten into danmaku shmups recently, and I'd love to pick up a few of those on sale. Mushihimesama with DLC for under $15 would be an insta-buy for me.

Steam sure has gone through lots of changes that don't really fork with sales in primarily ... spoiling buyers with too many sales
(esp. broad ones for every genre) creates the impression that sale prices are standard (they are anyway) but not to the average
buyer who doesn't care and will just buy game XY when it suits them. There still might be some minor sale covering a specific genre/publisher ... either way not very hyped nor interested.

Would be a strong move on their part. The Chinese market could potentially be an enormous asset, particularly as consoles have not had the same legacy due them being banned until just recently.

Not only China, but many other Asian countries too.

I certainly don't discount the influence of other Asian nations, particularly as I live in Japan. However, China is a bit of a special case as it has both the population as well as the economic might to account for a very significant portion and possibly even a majority of PC gaming profits if things are handled and positioned right. Whether the Chinese government will allow it to grow unchecked is an issue, though.

i admit, i found that low amount of discounted games suspicious... who knows... even if i wouldn't have anything to buy, sales make me happy, am i weird?

The funniest thing though is that many chinese customers won't really be able to enjoy this chinese new year sale if it comes indeed. As every chinese new year most people go back to their hometowns (since they all get holidays at the same time) where it's not really convenient to have access to a computer...

You should visit Vietnam because there are still remnants of French influence on Vietnamese cuisine. :^)
