When I first made a steam account I bought Rust and Garry's mod

I ran out and got the Collectors Edition on day 1. I had played the first a while before, but not the expansions, so I bought HL1 Platinum a few weeks before HL2 release.
I was actually really annoyed I needed to install Steam just to play HL2 and HL1 Platinum.
EDIT: Aww crap... I checked and HL1 Platinum is actually my first. WHOOPS. :D

Deleted my last comment because whatever.
If you bought the HL2 package at prior to or at launch like my your license will look something like this:
Doesn't mean HL Platinum was your first game--just that it (or parts of it) was available during your pre-order (while HL2 itself wasn't).

Naw, HL1 Plat was def the first game.
I bought it at a Sam Goody a few weeks prior to HL2 launch and when I got home I had to make an account to play and it kinda pissed me off. I didn't want this crappy software, I just wanted to install and play.
I got the HL2 Collectors Edition (the one that came with a T-Shirt) from Electronics Boutique the day it came out.

Scam Goody!
That sounds like Half-Life 2 Silver. That shoulda came with HL. Not that anyone was worried about dupes back then.
Also, I wish Gold came with a t-shirt--it came with a (child-size?) hat that was too small, but also with a cool guide or something. But still, t-shirt > craphat.

The physical Collector's Edition wasn't 1:1 with any digital versions. It reads " Half-Life 2 Retail Collectors" on the key activation page.
It came with (pic of back of box)
HL2
CS: Source
HL: Source
T-Shirt
HL2 Prima Book
I didn't like the idea of digital distribution (still don't really, but what you gonna do), so I always bought games physical. My first digital purchase on Steam was eight years after making the account, in 2012. :D
The trick with Sam Goody were "abusing" their membership promo deals.
I remember spending $20 on a game during a promo weekend and getting a free year membership and enough points for a $10 coupon.

Oh yeah I forgot you said physical collection. I bought that too, BTW. That's a separate story but let's just skip to the end of the story where I say that Overstock.com sucks.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, way back when Steam was just awful.

and the second was Portal 2 which I bought, so: Mission accomplished, Valve... ;)

The days of Steam where you could still install your game offline just to be shocked by the mandatory internet activation.

Doesn't matter if it;s paid or not. Still your first game.

Like the title says, what was your first game on steam? You can find it by clicking your name in the upper right, account details, then view license and product key activation and scroll all the way to the bottom.
My first steam account was hacked by an ex and I never got it back, so I am not sure there. But on this steam account it was Skyward Collapse.
The very next day I got Psychonauts and Costume Quest.
GA 1, Let's Party! (At the moment, 449 entries vs 526 responses, wow!)
GA 2, Unexpected Guests? (378 out of 526)
GA 3, Uh oh, party invaded. (271 out 526)
