(I'll use "artificial intelligence" where you used "robots," since I believe that is what you meant.)
This is some entry-level artificial intelligence technoethics. Anyway, your questions were somewhat vague and left a lot to be desired. For example, I believe AI can be dangerous to humanity and to life if it is not adequately programmed (or taught) to consider the morality or ethical merits of their conduct, and conditioned with the sort of proclivity for good and virtuous behavior that would best benefit all parties. That doesn't mean they have to be, however, and it is a matter of how artificial intelligence is designed and developed that is most exigent in the debate. Of course AI can be a threat to humanity and even all life, but that doesn't mean is has to be or even will.
I find it banal to ask whether artificial intelligence is the future of humanity, since that should be conspicuous at this point. Humanity as a species cannot progress without advanced in technology, in particular now advances in artificial intelligence and biomechatronics, and no matter the ethical concerns or threats to our species which might entail, it is the necessary next step for our species.
For an authority on this debate, I strongly recommend Isaac Asimov's novels, especially I, Robot, which was the first work to come to mind regarding artificial intelligence and the ethical and security concerns surrounding it. There is also a vast array of science fiction literature pertaining to artificial intelligence, many of which examine and explore the potentially positive and negative effects of artificial intelligence on human society.
The primary issues surrounding artificial intelligence at this time concerns the ethics of artificial intelligence, in particular roboethics and machine ethics; and the philosophical considerations of artificial intelligence. The threat of artificial intelligence to humanity, albeit still a pressing concern, is only the tip of the iceberg.
