Looks like it's your internet connectivity, as the error notes. I've never had trouble with downloading updates or Steam games, and they always download at my max download rate. I'm assuming it's not on their end. Maybe it begins to download and then your internet cuts out and corrupts it or something.

Sorry for the hijack, just pasting the solution in case op misses it below.

If you know what you're doing, go into regedit and find the offline flag for Steam. Set it to 0 and retry. Running a fever atm, so can't really find it for you, but it's not that hard. If you're still having trouble, I can help more tomorrow.

I got the same error recently. It was because I signed up for beta client. Disabled the beta version of steam client and the the issue went away.

Have you tried deleting the blob file? Doing that usually fixes issues like this.

That's odd, try disconnecting from your wifi connection and reconnecting.

Just run SteamTmp.exe, it will bypass that and start Steam normally until an update fixes the problem.

Make sure you close the process first before you try to run SteamTmp.exe. If that doesn't work, I can't help you - I had the exact same problem for a few weeks before it was fixed.

You might contact Steam support before you flip out at it, though.

It's honestly not that bad. It's not the greatest support in the world, but it's nowhere near as bad a 3-4 weeks for a response.

In the meantime, google the problem and browse some more forums and try to fix it yourself. A lot of times it's very easy, you just have to find the trick that works in your case.

I had that on Linux once i signed in for the beta, go into the desktop Steam shortcut and add -clearbeta
At worse, uninstall and re-install it, remember to move your steamapps and userdata folder out to the desktop.

I understand your frustration, but people would be more willing to help if you weren't a whiny douche about it. Probably firewall settings or some such. Try running in administrator mode. Also try bypassing your router if you have one.

I also got this problem...I presume that their servers are overloaded since this update is quite bigger than usual.
SteamTmp.exe solution is working for me. At least I'll wait one-two days until there's not much load.
