On vista there was a very good currency converter gadget, but gadgets were discontinued, and are no longer available.

I was wondering whether anyone know of something to replace it? I was thinking a rainmeter thing, and after doing some research I found this thread and this skin.

The skin takes too long to enter in a value, I'd rather have a box where I can just enter it in and the converted value would be displayed in real time.

The thread doesn't contain any uploaded skins (unless I missed them), though it has a lot of shared code in it, so if any of you are any good at writing rainmeter stuff maybe you could finish it off?

Otherwise, does anyone know a good alternative? :)

I repeat, I don't want to be told why the gadgets were removed. I know why they were removed. I'm looking for an alternative which will do the same thing. I don't want a website, I already use them, I want something local which is faster than using a website.

Why don't you just use google?

Cause when doing lots of converting it's faster to use a gadget :)

xe.com/ucc

Not really sure I see the need for something to run locally when it's already so easy to get the information you want.

For me they was very usless onle takeing a bit more memory. on windows 7 there was a good option to turn off that function! on windows 8 they removed it. microsoft says that the platform was having some major security holes and second they waned to make everything more simple and spotlight the metro ui. i never used them so i dont miss them at all

Actually they were introduced on Vista, and removed for 7 (to the best of my knowledge)

Yes, the reason they removed them was because of security holes, but that doesn't mean a replacement will have security holes

That thing hasn't updated in ages...the exchange rates are from 2008 or something...well at least that's what happened with mine.
