Gotta be honest, I've made that same mistake before - well, they were guest passes for MNC. Annoying to be true, but they took them anyway, and I get bad rep, so no harm done apart from a silly percentage decrease. I'll just give away some more stuff to boost it back up! :D

Keep in mind that according to some recent announcement, the negative feedback might have been issued by the site itself, regardless of whether the "winners" actually marked it as received or not. For all you know, they could have ticked "received" the moment they saw they won. This might be not their being jerks, but simply the SG site punishing a rule-breaking giveaway.
