over the last days I have entered all the DOTA 2 giveaways i could. Never won any which seemed strange but OK. Then a couple of days ago - HOORAY I won. But the next day I still had not received any code. When i checked my profile and the giveaway I saw that I no longer was the winner but somebody else now.
What has happened? have I been rerolled? Why? Pretty sure I did not violate any rules of the site.

thanks,
Marc

Contact the giveaway holder eh.

Seeing that you already have the game in your Steam Library, the Gifter had every right to ask for reroll. Read the rules again.

It could be the spectator client.

It was the spectator client, so the giveaway creator was confused.

What do you mean by "one of us". I said the truth. If the person that won already has the game, then the gifter has every right to ask for reroll. It's another problem if the Spectator Client shows up as Dota 2 in the Library.

Also i'm kind of interested on how did you even enter the giveaway for Dota 2 ? Didn't the Spectator Client count as Dota 2 in SteamGifts and restrict people on entering giveaways?

I have dota 2 and the other thing that comes with it. Yet, I still see EVERY dota 2 giveaway and its pretty annoying. It might have to do with me not installing it yet but still..

Well, activate it and re-sync then!

It's no good sitting in your inventory, and it's practically worthless for trading :P

Re-sync your library and go to: http://www.steamgifts.com/filter and try the new owned games filter :).

Usually if you are not using the add-on or the new filter on the site, you are going to see your games even if you own them, but you can't enter them (it says that you already have the game).

Install -> run for half an hour (I did it in the background) -> Sync -> wait a day or 2 -> uninstall because it has so many updates and you're too busy studying and playing other games to feel like needing those right now.

Pretty much this.

Yeah, the gifter has the right to ask for a re-roll. But instead of being a jerk about it you could spend a minute of your life to talk to the winner before doing it to make sure it isn't a mistake like this one.

(note: not a jab at ana3)

They might not be aware that there is a difference.
I could enter dota 2 giveaways even when I got both (at least I think I do) the actual game and the spectator client.
Hell, I entered one by accident and won it, had to tell the guy to reroll since he already sent it blindly.

Green bar won't disappear until you set the gift as "received", has nothing to do with where the mail went. :(

Well, that actually was me :(. I took a fast look through your steam inventory before sending, because of problems a couple of days before that and saw you had played some Dota 2 already (screenshot http://dl.dropbox.com/u/375417/Salem.JPG) and decided might have already won it. Requested support to re-roll the winner and it got approved, I had no idea about the spectator client appearing as normal Dota 2. If you still haven't been able to acquire a copy please contact me on steam and I'll try to get a redeemable key for you. I have sent you a friend invite.

That's good, I really felt bad for him! But I already acquired a redeemable key, guess now I have to give it away :D.

yeah i got it by now but thanks anyways^^ no need to feel bad ana3mic, i understand the confusion :-) the whole thing with the spectator client showing up as the real game is pretty annoying though. BTW: in my library the spectator client shows up as "Dota 2" while the actual game is "Dota 2 Test". it really should be the other way round^^

Actually, if you won Dota 2 and redeemed it, "Dota 2 Test" is test version of upcoming updates while actual "Dota 2" is up to date Dota 2, don't get confused as I did.

That's why it pays to talk to them before automatically re-rolling =P
