Yeah, I agree and I've often thought about that. When you look on talent shows you kind of see it. Let's take the cheesy and easy example of Susan Boyle. She's got a good enough voice to get those deals that she did but wouldn't have gotten them if not for a talent show. What if she never went on that show? She would have just died without ever being known for her voice at all. There must be other people about to die very soon in a position just like she was in: great voice but unknown. Same with any other talent. If everyone could find out what they were really good and be free to excel in those points it'd surely be a different world. Functional? Probably not. Like it or not, our society requires those people who never reach their full potential.
I often wonder what I'm really good at. I have some ideas but I find I really lack motivation to pursue those skills and talents and develop them. I'm also really fucking depressed so that might contribute to the lack of motivation. But sometimes I do wonder if I'll just die without ever finding anything I like to do that's productive.

I've been wondering. Do you think that some people don't become someone they could have become just because of different circumstances? For example, let's say there's a guy who could sing like Michael Jackson if he just did it and trained a little but he doesn't believe in himself so it never happens and his life turns out in a different way. Or let's say there's a girl who is amazing at acting and it comes naturally to her but she doesn't even know it. Hence she doesn't pursue that goal and she never becomes one of the most amazing actresses that ever lived. Or do you guys believe in "if that didn't happen then it wasn't supposed to happen" excuse? Or maybe you have a different view on the matter altogether. Let's hear your opinions.
