the dream of the future you see dissolves
and with time so does the apprehension
the world under sun is no exception
and all you see around you evolves
new traits in things familiar can be sensed
but futile is hope without fruition
the grief you knew begets no vision
the happiness you felt becomes regret
winter fades and takes its cold and storm
spring revives the world with love and warmth
but still the law: all things decay and age
vanity itself won't dry your tears
and so you fear as your time draws near
the world will turn but never change

Gears of War 3, then? That one's pretty artistic.

A few more I have that noone mentioned so far.
Like Terry Cavanagh's (creator of VVVVVV) Don't Look Back, which you can play for free on Kongregate. Hard as hell, but I love it. Another free flashy one is Every Day The Same Dream, which is an existencial artsy game with a weird sense of humor. It's one of those down-looked-on games that are put in the cathegory of "walk games", but I wholeheartedly recommend. Another game from that cathegory would be Dear Esther, which I have yet to play, but judging by the original sourcemod it's based on, it really is a love/hate kind of thing. Can't say i disliked it though.
For the PS2 if you're interested in Shadow of the Colossus, definitely play ICO. Most immersive game I've ever played, period.
And last but not least, Check out Sanitarium for the PC, an old (10+ years old) point-and-click adventure. It is unique in its own genre with its unusual inventory and presentation, and the whole game is basically a venture into the protagonist's mind, as it becomes way too obvious in the beginning. It has some creepy scenes, some awesome mystery stories, and overall is recommended, despite all the pixel hunt it forces onto you.
Oh, one more. Yume Nikki. Couldn't stop reflecting on it after I finished it first, this just might be the Eraserhead of videogames.

Copypasta from this thread
Ones I haven't tried but am looking forward to:
Heavy Rain (PS3 only)
The Stanley Parable (Half-life 2 mod)
Triptych (Crysis mod)
To The Moon (as stated in other threads, it's coming to steam, YAY)
Nikopol (have it, need to play it)
I also know the Myst series is generally recommended when people ask for games like Dear Esther
Also, I loved Dear Esther too, amazing game (or whatever you want to call it). Never felt like I was actually in the gameworld before, all the atmospheric details really did a good job of doing that
/endcopypasta.
To The Moon is coming to steam I believe.

Putting Heavy Rain in a list of art games is an insult to art games. It doesn't say anything about anything, it's merely a thriller movie with quick time events, plot holes, and characters who act against their own interest/motivations.
The only thing pretentious about that game is David Cage.

+1 (roughly equal parts art and game): Braid, Limbo, Portal/Portal 2, NightSky, Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit), Deus Ex: HR, Bastion, Auditorium
+½ (perhaps more art than game): Trauma, Windosill, Machinarium, Samorost 2, The Cat and the Coup (although it's pretty blah), Chime, Coil
+oldschool: Zork: Nemesis, Grim Fandango, Deus Ex (original)
+troll: Secret of the Magic Crystals, Keyboard Drumset Fucking Werewolf
+random: Rock of Ages, Time Gentlemen Please/Ben There Dan That
+?????!!! (I've not played them (enough?)): Lume, Nikopol, Saira, Fate of the World, Mirror's Edge, Between (it says "IGF Demo", but it's the full game -- mp only...)

If you don't mind the repetitive and sub-par gameplay Alice: Madness Returns may interest you. It has lovely visuals and solid art direction which varies as you enter a different domain. I do however recommend playing in short bursts as the game is otherwise basically the same.
The voice acting is quite good, but sub-par compared to the previous game.

Hi fellows,
I'm really into games I call "artistic games". Games that got more than cool/challenging/innovative gameplay. There ought to be a message behind everything. Games that make me think.
I've played Dear Esther, Which, The Stanley Parable, and the game (I can't remember the name) which involved the Little Red Riding Hood.
Any proposal would be appreciated.
