So at my house we pay for the standard 10mbps download and 1mbps upload and I was wondering why is it that when I go to download/torrent things from Steam or any other website/service that I am only allowed to download at 1.2mbps?

Is there a way to unlock that download speed to what I am paying for?

At my house there is only one laptop and one desktop connected at the the most.

My ISP (internet service provider) is Bright House in Florida

My desktop is hard wired to the router

I am connected to the Atlanta Steam server which is the one with the lowest ping and I only get a max of 1.2mbps and I pay for 10mbps

your speed is 10 megabits, while your download speed is in megabytes, 1 megabyte= 8 megabits hence downloading at 1.2 megabytes

You are getting what you are paying for. ISP go by megabits and 10 megabits is about 1.25 megabytes.

You could test your internet speed at http://speedtest.net/

mbps = megabits per second. When you download at 1.2 megaBYTES per second, that is roughly equivalent to 10 megaBITS per second.
