You'd have better gaming luck with a 3570K and GTX 680 for the same price. It's good to remember which parts do what in a gaming machine.

lol 2,000 budget, wish i had that type of budget. you can virtually buy whatever you want, the best stuff out right now with that type of budget. only thing that will cost a shitload is prob a big ssd(like 600gb for 900$), but you dont need more then 128gb in a ssd.

Buy Phenom II X4 955 BE - EPIC CPU ! :D I O/C it from 4x 3,2Ghz to 4x 3,8ghz :D Also i recommend you ATI Radeon XFX HD5770 1GB or HD7870 GHz O/C Edition from Gigabyte... both are cheap and both are beasts ! BF3 Ultra + 1920x1080 resolution = 60+ fps... FarCry 3 also work on ultra with ~60fps... if u want ask me for frames in other best looking games and ill tell u :)

He has a 2000 dollar budget....why would anyone recommend such old parts? Granted they still do OK but really not a great idea now.

You should get yourself a 3rd gen pc, about 60%-80% faster than first gen pcs -
this means Intel Ivy Bridge Motherboard + CPU (or Sandy Bridge if you want to have 2nd gen, but overclock).
Don't go AMD - until they have at least caught up to Intel. The CPU is already maxed out, meaning it bottlenecks elsewhere. Intel redesigned the entire motherboard to work with the cpu, direct access to memory and graphics = less bottlenecks = more performance for gaming.
Go i5 or i7 Intel CPU, such as the i7-3770 CPU. No need to get the K, unless overclocking which is old school and a thing of the past (you shouldn't need to overclock at all, as performance of games will already be maxed out).
Make sure the motherboard supports and matchs it, plus has a good gamer structure and layout. Such as the Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3. A good motherboard can make a huge difference and allow future upgrades.
Get a great graphics card and all the boost ends up here. Suggest the Nvidia GTX 680. It supports PCI-E 3.0 as well and would work well with the selected motherboard.
You should go 64 bit OS, suggest Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit (not that tablet Win8 crap unless you want a headache).
For memory, optimal gaming performance is actually 8GB of 1600MHz DDRAM3. Slower can bottleneck, however faster won't show more than a 1% performance gain towards gaming. Use 2 sticks of 4GB or 4 sticks of 2GB for duel channel memory.
For PSU (power supply unit), suggest 700W so you can future proof and SLI graphic cards at a later date. At the moment and probably for ages, you won't need to, but it's good to have the options available.
Suggest a Black Edition HDD 7200RPM, with a small SSD (Solid State Drive) used as cache on top of that. Intel Smart Response Technology, which the suggested motherboard will be able to support nicely within a few clicks to setup (it's not too hard).
That would be able to play the latest games, such as Far Cry 3, on ultra graphics settings at 1920x1080 resolution, without breaking a sweat. Lag-free, high frame rate. The 680 GTX is a beast to go with that motherboard and processor.

You would be happy with the new FX (Vishera) series, FX-6300,FX-83xx. Get an ASUS mobo for it.Get 8gigs of ram, 1600mhz CL9. And about VGA a 7870/GTX660Ti. I would go with the AMD instead of iNTEL, cause of Steamrollers (the next gen cpu-s) could fit in you mobo with a BIOS update, and iNTEL changes socket every year.

I built my computer with around 1600$
My specs,
i7 3770k 3.5Ghz 329$
Asus Sabertooth z77 242$
EVGA GTX680 superclocked signature edition 470$
2x Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB ram, so total 16 GB 102$
CM StormTrooper high tower 160$
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 110$
XFX ProSeries 850W PSU XXX Edition 145$
I didn't get an SSD cause I'm not a fan and don't think it's really needed for me but you have about 400$ extra with that build to do whatever you want.
Anyway, I can run those games on max settings pretty much, or very very close to max, no problem.

My budget is around $2,000.
I want to be able to run GW2 or Farcry 3 on max settings (or as close to it as possible). Recommend me some parts that you feel would be good.
Edit: I appreciate all of the advice, Iv'e seen some nice recommendations on parts and builds.
