I used this promotion. Only drawback is that Paypal changed something and also it just was paid automatically this time without login etc = i paid more for exchange rates (like 105% of price). I wrote to support, not sure if they can help and redo payment.

I was initial wondering the same but I think their disclaimer may help put you at ease.
Subscription plan begins when customer redeems gift. Subscription content changes every month, so content received depends on when the customer redeems the gift. Cannot use to obtain subscription content from past months. Must be redeemed on a new or compatible subscription plan.

I just tried to do this and got an error message when trying to redeem my second gift link: Sorry, user accounts can't exceed 24 months paid in advance. You currently have 23 month(s) credited to your account. Hang onto your gift link and you'll be able to redeem it later!
Presumably I can redeem this link next year because there is nothing indicating that the link is going to expire, but it's definitely a headache having to hold onto this link till next year.

I may be overthinking this, but has anyone been near their last months of classic sub, bought one of these year long "premium" subscriptions, and confirmed that after the classic sub would have ended, the added 12 months didn't convert their account to premium (stayed on classic)?
I mean, they aren't secretly keeping track and will convert to premium when the old classic sub would have ended, even though the account page shows them as classic months in the future?

You can buy multiple gifts (this is my assumption), but if you want to activate them all on your account this will not work as far as I know (they do not stack on top each other).
But since these gifts will not expire, you can buy bunch of them and activate each year :)
