Steam has changed the privacy settings.

You are now able to make your profile privat for anyone except your friends (do not think this were possible before?).

As for now, SteamGifts cannot synchronize Steam data when your account is set to private or 'friends only'.

Would it be possible to friend up with the synchronization bot / script, to be able to keep a 'friends only' profile and still be able to synchronize Steam data?

Isnt there limit to the friend list number tho :?

If many people wana do that , it may become an issue .

It's true. But maybe the bot could accept trading cards donation to level up, just as 'Sasara - Barter.vg notifier' ( https://steamcommunity.com/id/iwanttobecute ) does.

Or you should be level 5+ (random level picked), or be patreon to be able use this feature.

Friends-only? It should have been there since forever.

Edit: Ah, you mean the individual game list control now, which is set to friends-only by default. Well, people will have to set it to public.

When you say that - I remember you're right. But my suggestion is still existing :)

Not likely, since Steamgifts uses the Steam API which requires your profile to be public. I'm pretty sure you can make your account public, sync on Steamgifts, and change it back to private though.

It sounds logic that the synchronization is using the Steam API. I do not know if friending up could help so then :-/

It's just cumbersome to synchronize your data that way...

This is a joke, right?

Why should it be a joke? You can either take my suggestion or leave it :-)

1- As talgaby said it has been there since forever
2- How do you expect SG to get your data when you set it friends-only? Does it really sound plausible to you? I think "friends-only" word really speaks for itself. It means your info can only be seen by your friends. Only your friends can see your info. Sorry but can't be more explicit than this.

There was actually a change yesterday, you can now control the owned games page individually, and Valve, in their infinite wisdom, set it to friends-only for everyone by default.

As always, opt-out sucks.

Privacy by default is actually good design. I see opt-out/opt-in here as "disclosing your private data is opt-in"

If you are creating a new account, yeah it is a good design.
If you are forcing users to check and adjust their settings when they visit you or putting a huge announcement or sending notifications about it, yeah it is a good design.
If you are changing the default settings, possibly screwing up with lots of websites and making an announcement which almost 90% of the community won't even see, no it is not a good design.

The only sites is "screws up with" are creepy peeping toms. The few who have a legitimate reason to check your list of owned games can just inform users of the new setting themselves, which won't take you longer than being forced by Steam to review the new settings.

Sure it would have been a better design for Steam to send users to their new settings (or just use that alert feature that we get when they rob our account of a game), but there's a sad trend of doing everything automatically for the baby-users :/

LOL :D
I can come up with 6 websites they screw up without even thinking about it
SG, SteamDB, Exophase, SteamCompletionist, BLAEO tool, PA tool.

Steam has a working mobile application, I mean it's not that hard to send a push notification :)

This is part of the package when you choose to build a business that 100% depends on a third-party business.
But again, legitimate sites are not "screwed up", they can just add modify the message explaining their users what should be made public on their profile. The sites who are "screwed up" are those who siphon user data without their consent: those ones can't ask unaware users to make stuff public.

What's wrong with the account alert feature? 👀

Oh... Well it looks like this (although those I got were always yellow)

I typically get those when a key is revoked (for instance the key for a demo). They are visible both on the website and in the Steam client (I don't know about the mobile app, I don't use it), until you actively dismiss them (need to check a box + validate)

Actually, I was talking about exactly something like this

Only that it's data we already opted-in.
They could have just set it to the same setting we had for our full profile before. This way nothing changes (for noone) and everyone can decide if he changes tht setting (assuming theres a steam blog informing people...)

It's been there forever, only now it's been given more granularity

It's always been the case, so I don't think the new update changes anything on that matter.
Friending with the synchronization bot would be limited by the friendlist size liimit, although I suppose it could be worked around by only friending temporarily

It's more likely for a user script (so something like ESGST) to be able to implement a feature to set you to public, sync SG, and set it back to what you want.
