Wanted to go ahead and grab a couple more things before the sale ends. Looking to spend around $5 and prefer RPGs. My favorites on Steam right now are the two Ys games.

Specs wise, I have a dual core 2.30 GHz processor, 4GB of RAM running Windows 7 64 bit. Only suck thing is the Intel 4 series GPU and my computer is a laptop, so that's not likely getting an upgrade without me getting a new computer. Skyrim runs fine on it on low settings and I have no issue with how it looks. But I know with those specs that The Witcher is out for the time being.

Edit: Ended up grabbing both KOTOR games. But I don't mind more recs to wishlist for future sales.

Also, I have Fable 3 and Bastion for my Xbox 360 and have no plans to rebuy them. No need to rec those as I know how awesome they are.

Yeah, that's a nice start, but I also know reviews don't always tell the whole story about a game, especially when a lot don't even have a score. I know some of my favorites have crap scores because they don't have pretty graphics.

Not only that, if you especially like JRPG's many people hate on them for no reason at all.

That as well. They always complain about the games being too cliche. I honestly don't care if a game has every JRPG cliche in the book if it has a good story, interesting characters, and fun gameplay.

Yeah, though looks like I missed the sale now. Crud. I'll wishlist it though in case it pops up again.

And didn't get that because most of the games in it were just not stuff I was interested in.

Spiderwebs RPGs are pretty fun. Try Avernum or Geneforge.

I saw those two are also strategy games, how much of a strategy element is there? Avadon looks great but I tend to fear the mention of strategy when I am such an utter failure at games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem.

They're not much more strategic than the average RPG, in my opinion. Certainly not anywhere near the level of games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem.

I wouldn't call it "strategy", it's just a turn based fight mode. Just like in Baldur's Gate and many others.

  • KOTOR II isn't too bad, make sure you play KOTOR I and get all the patch fixes!
  • Krater... looks okay from my PoV, not sure otherwise :p
  • Wanderlust: Rebirth is also cheap, though I found the game too gimicky myself

I'll look for more later, I g2g soon :P

KOTOR 1 is the best Star Wars game ever. The story is interesting and some decisions can make you lead to the dark/light side of the force. It's kinda old and clunky, but it's lenghty and the game is memorable.

I personally like KotOR 2 better, at least when fully patched and using the restored content mod, because it was a bit of a mess on release. But yeah both KotOR games are great and very much worth playing.

You know, I always thought KOTOR wasn't an RPG and I actually don't have it. May go ahead and grab it at that price.

And what do you mean by Wanderlist: Rebirth being too gimicky? I was actually looking at that one as well.

It's really up to you, I found the gameplay pretty dull and not too inspiring xD

Krater is great (ignore the metascore the game has had major updates since most of the reviews are from alpha).

Dungeons of Dredmor, cheap game with high MetaCritic score, load of achievements to get and it won't set your laptop on fire

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, not setting my laptop on fire is great, though it's actually very good about not overheating or even feeling in the least bit warm. I was looking at that one, but it looked very much like a dungeon crawler and light on the story and characters. Is that accurate, or does the store page do a crap job portraying the game?

Yes, you're right about the story part, this game doesn't have a story after all :P

Fallout 3/New Vegas or Oblivion/Morrowind. I think Fallout 3 is going to be 5$ some time, same for Oblivion and Morrowind, not sure about NV, tho.

I've actually seen Fallout NV when my former roomie was playing it, not my sort of RPG. Have Oblivion and Morrowind already and I'm sure I'll enjoy them.

Buy both KOTOR games THIS INSTANT! :-P
Best $5 you're likely to spend.
And they'll probably run well enough on your machine without AA. KOTOR II needs to be played with the restoration mod for a better experience, but I can't be arsed to get the link now, I'm on my cell phone.

By the way, how could you play Ys Origin for over 600 hours?!
I know that the game is awesome, but... 600 hours? Its all Boss Rush?

Actually, it keeps counting your time even if you click off the window. So Nightmare Boss Rush plus my hands getting sore and needing a break so I click off the window for a time, get distracted and come back an hour later, and that added up.
