Saints Row 2 not working

It crashes after dificulty select.
The sad thing is that it's an old problem and nobody (Steam or the developers) tried to fix it.
I bought the Humble Deep Silver Bundle for this game and now I can't play it.

I tried all the fixes I could find on the internet, but none of them worked.

I run Win 7 x64.

EDIT: After vidmavidma sudgested the thing with the controller, I remembered I had one plugged in (but never use it)...so I unplugged the controller, started the game and now it runs without any problems :D
I feel so stupid right now :epicfacepalm:

I'll leave the thread open, in case there are more "geniuses" like me out there :)

Try changing sr2_pc.exe settings:

  • Disable visual themes.
  • Run in compatibility mode (XP SP3).

Let me know if it works after you change those settings.

I'm sure this will be of little comfort to you, but it's always run well for me on Windows 7 64 bit (Ultimate).

If you've tried all the fixes (and there are several), I don't really know what to suggest.

Hope you get it sorted :)

I just finished downloading it, started, selected difficulty and game started normally, w/o problems :S

And I'm running win 7 x64

It's a pretty terrible PC port in the first place, one of the worst I have ever seen. So bad that it tends to ruin the experience at times. I'd recommend buying it and playing it on a console, if you have the option to do so.

Personally, I needed to unplug my controller to play that game. Just having it plugged in crashed the game, even if I was not using it.
