I go through the motions of sending, but it doesn't show as "sent" in my inventory. Does this mean their email is invalid, or am I just having steam issues?

Oh, and can I request a new winner over this, or do I HAVE TO add them on steam and send it that way?

(Edit: I had already sent an invite to him on Steam before starting this thread, this is just for "[Discussion]". He hasn't accepted yet though.)

You have to add them to steam first.

I've sent steam gifts via-email to non friends.

I think his point was that you need to add them to steam and try that way first before asking for a reroll (and not that you need them as friends to e-mail it to them). You need to have tried all ways of contacting them before you just decide they're not reachable.

Ah, I was wanting to start stipulating that if I can't just email it to you, then I'll ask for a reroll, on future giveaways I make.

I think just adding the winner and telling him to fix his email is faster than contacting support and wait for a re-roll. If you are concerned regarding the winner not setting the game to received or whatever you can contact the support I guess. Emails have to be entered and are a part of the page requirements. If the winner doesn't think it important to follow site rules I am sure support will allow a reroll

I just added him on Steam, but I won't accept an invite that a "winner" sends.

lulwut?

I did everything I normally do to send over email, I'm just not getting the little "Sent to [address]" on the item in my inventory.

The steps being

"Send"

"paste address"

"Send"

Then I get the "Your gift has been sent, to view it's progress your inventory" page.

well, then you will have to add them and trade the game

"Gift will be emailed, make sure your address is up to date!!"
Is really common on giveaway, and I think a valid email address is a terms of use of SteamGifts. From that I figured being unable to just email it would make the win "invalid".

I had this problem once, did you check the winners games list to see if it is listed. In my case the recipient had redeemed the game, even though it was still listed in my inventory. I think restarting steam fixed it for me.

I don't think that it's "sending" at all. It's acting like the email address just doesn't exist.

Would I get a "bounceback" alert if that was the case?

Also, an account sent me an invite on Steam, but I've never trusted "Same name and thumbnail" to be enough to make sure it's actually the person that won. And I generally won't accept, but I go to the winner page and add the account I find there. A $0.99 DLC, I now realize, would not be worth the effort it would take to pull such a scam.

I had the issue when the person I was sending the gift to already had the game - maybe that is the case too?

Nah, it's a DLC in this case. He has the base game. Just waiting on him to accept my friend invite.

Yeah but maybe he has the DLC already - sometimes it is not listed in the game list. The safest way to see if he owns it is to make a friend request (like you already did) and then check on the games/DLC store page if he already owns it.
