New chapter.
Two puzzles.
You can start HERE.

I will add hints if necessary.
I will post the solution at the end.

Giveaways:

  • After the 1st puzzle:
Drake Hollow, Cepheus Protocol, As Far As The Eye, We Need To Go Deeper, Out Of Space, Last Oasis
  • After the 2nd puzzle:
    The Ascent

Enjoy!

HINTS
P1: there's more than 2 pictures there
P2: in physics there are symbols for both quantities and units of measure

I've thought this several times before, but this really looks like the hardest one yet on first impression. Looks interesting though.
Is the unusual keyboard layout deliberate?

It is, but it just "hides" a hint that may become clear once you start searching for what you have to search.

Edit: I had to replace the picture, the stock photo I used had double "J" (and there were no "N") and I didn't notice, sorry for that. The letters you should focus on are the most evident ones.

My 2000’s music collection is empty, I hope that is part of the hint haha.

Well thought out puzzle, but beyond my means at the moment. Have a bump

Awesome puzzles, I'm waiting for Chapter 6!

Bump. No clue what to do with the numbers in part 2.
Letters and their order is hopefully clear but no idea how to fuse them. Format is clear but the numbers what do they mean.

Part 1 was straightforward, after I found IT. Needed luck based research... but the hints were all there 😅

Beyond my capabilities but I'm looking forward to the solution as always. Really cool puzzle once again, Doggo ;)

I got this part, just don't know how to apply it to the second part of the solution

I'm quite sure I need another intermediate resource referenced by some other symbols, but just can't find it.

Order-wise that's all you need, after that you just need to do some searching while keeping in mind the hint in the OP about quantities and units of measure in physics.

It's probably something silly I'm missing. I've got the correct symbols matching the answer's format. Yet don't know how to apply the ordering(The letters and numbers seem to be referencing something which has the answers from part 2 organized in some graphical form to which I could apply the order)

…How much math does the second puzzle require? And what does “derived” mean?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

0 math required, just some basic physics knowledge. Like knowing that quantities have symbols, that units of measure have symbols or that there are systems to classify units.

Im lost, do i need to have a good knowledge of 2000s songs for the first part?

Not necessarily. It's not even about songs. It's just that the code that you have there has been used that way somewhere before, and that somewhere is related to the music world.
Btw some people solved it without even seeing the hints about music.

>>>>> SOLUTIONS <<<<<
Hints you had are in italic

  • Puzzle 1
the 1st picture is Baudot code.
I was inspired by Coldplay X&Y album cover.
Early 2000's music reference in the ITH question box.
The 2nd picture is a strip of colors; their hex codes spell thealbumcoverof"arealband"canhelpyou. The caption on imgur refer directly to cold-, -play.
In the 3rd picture X and Y are the most evident letters, they simply recall the album title,.

Someone solved it as if it was a cryptogram, that works too.

  • Puzzle 2

    • Order the letters in the 1st picture using the planets symbols, from Mercury to Uranus.
    • Match the letters (which are actually physics quantities symbols) with the correspective pysics quantity in the 2nd picture (i.e. "A" for Radioactive Activity, "L" for Inductance, etc.)
    • Find out the SI units of measure of those quantities. (i.e. Bq for Radiactuve Activity, H for Inductance, etc.)
The numbers are octal for "SI units of measure"
    • The units in the right order are your sequence, type them down following the given format.

Ah, damn, that second puzzle might have actually been one I'd be able to solve. (Cuz I really like astronomy for whatever reason and immediately recognized the symbols. I blame my physics teacher in 12-th grade and Sailor Moon. XD ) Unfortunately my protagonist froze to death... and then his ghost got distracted and forgot to bump the thread because he's dumb. Sorry about that. :X

Again, thank you for the puzzles and the giveaways. :D

(...Also again, just tell me and I'll delete any parts of my comment that need "redacting"...)
