Q+A:

Q1: If I wait to buy the bundle, will the BTA Price go up? (Tier 2)

  • A: YES, the BTA price WILL INCREASE. This is because as people pay MORE than the BTA price to buy Tier 2 or higher, they BTA INCREASES as time goes on.

  • The BTA does NOT* go down

    • In some circumstances* or some time after the bundle is released, the BTA price may or may not go down. The BTA price goes down if people pay LESS than the BTA price, such as buying only Tier 1 for $1 or less).

Q2: What is "increase your order"?

  1. If you have already purchased a bundle and want to beat the average or increase your order amount, just go to your personal download page and click this link near the top.

  2. This option will be available throughout the bundle sale period as well as for a short period after the bundle has closed. After you click the link, it will expand into this window

  3. Enter the amount you would like to ADD to your initial order, NOT the total amount you would like to donate. For example, in the example above, enter $7.75 to bring the total to $17.75.

Q3: What is locking the BTA?

  • A: Locking the BTA means that at the time of purchase, whatever the BTA price is at that time (i.e. Let's say its $5.50), this will be your BTA price forever. Simply buy Tier 1 of the bundle for $1, and if you want to increase your order in the future, you will only have to pay the difference between $1 and $5.50 + $0.01, meaning if you want the games in the BTA tier, you will pay only $4.51, even if the current BTA price on the bundle page is $6, for example (the BTA price changes depending on the AVERAGE $$x that people are buying the bundle at. The BTA fluctuates, and usually increases over time as more people pay higher prices for the bundle).

Q4: What is "Pay more than the average vs. Pay $XX or more"?

Often for bundles, there are two additional tiers of content that you can access. The first is locked under a title of "Pay more than the average of $X.XX to unlock!" In this instance, you must beat the average listed. If the amount is $3.25, you must pay at least $3.26 to gain access to that content. It also never hurts to add an extra five or ten cents to be certain that you will unlock the content!

The highest tier of content often will say "Pay $XX or more to unlock!" In this case, you simply need to meet the specified amount in order to get the additional games.

Mid-Promotion additions

For the main page bundles, often extra games will be added to the beat the average tier half way through the duration of the bundle. If you have already purchased the bundle, you still have access to those games! As long as you had beaten the average at time of purchase, you will automatically gain access to those games. You simply have to open up the download page we originally emailed to you, and the new games will now be listed at the bottom.

Normal keys (non-humblebundle) should activate just fine according to ForUNCUT.. It seems like 2K supplied them with reverse region-restricted keys. I'll clarify with Rachel.

Thank you for the information.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So this is where it comes from. The ROW keys should have no region lock according to steamdb and for UNCUT! curation. Humble's notice probably just states that they do not sell the keys to Germans, although Germans can redeem them without problems. Since there's no special Humble SubID, the situation should not have changed.

I've wondered why so many giveaways state explicitly that the key cannot be redeemed in Germany, although it quite obviously should. Looks like disinformation on Humble's side.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not disinformation. According to German law they are not allowed to advertise these games in Germany. But these games themselves are not prohibited in Germany, so they activate.
There are a few games that don't activate in Germany, but these are really few.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, Germans can't even see Humble's claim that ROW keys won't activate in Germany, since we only get censored keys from them anyway. So while your advertisement argument is true, the false notice to ROW users concerning a non-existing region lock makes little sense. This only leads to giveaways copying this false warning, from gifters who don't know better.
(Side note: this whole matter is confusing and complicated, especially for the lucky ones not living in Germany, Australia, Japan and other censorship contries. While ROW keys for Saints Row 2 activate in Germany, Saints Row 3 keys have a region lock and only activate as a Steam gift. I really recommend the for Uncut! group and curator for more information concerning region locks and censorship.)

I will try to obtain a ROW key and post if it works.

Comment has been collapsed.

I just obtained and redeemed a key for The Darkness II, bought in the US, redeemed in Germany.

] licenses_for_app 67370
License packageID 13165:

  • State : Active( flags 0 ) - Purchased : Mon Jul 25 11:35:04 2016 in "DE", CD Key
  • Apps : 67370, (1 in total)
  • Depots : 67371, 67372, 67373, 67374, 67375, 67376, 67377, 67378, 67380, 67381, 67382, 67383, 67384, 67385, (14 in total)

13165 is the uncensored version, DE is Germany (activation country, "Purchased:" is misleading here).

So The Darkness II has no region lock (as expected).

HOWEVER, I do not know what happens if a German user redeems a non-German Humble gift link. It is possible that it generates a ROW key, but it is just as possible that the German IP infects the purchase with censorship, generating a German key. (And no matter what Humble does now, they might start in the future; there was a time when they didn't have payment lock.)

In cases like these, it's safer to use keys, not Gift links.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The funny thing is I wrote the same thing here about ROW keys.^^

Thanks for the update. Just to clarify any misunderstanding, this was a humblebundle key you bought, right?

Also what kind of irks me is that Humblebundle only generates those messages for gift-links but not for their keys. So they are either different keys (doubtful), Humblebundle just being lazy (probably) or not being up front with the customer (most probable, but also not intentionally, I guess ).

And a big thank you to Rachel for the quick update in OP.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It was a key from the current Humble 2K bundle, but it's a standard ROW retail key. (Sometimes there are extra subs for Humble, like the Sonic or Borderlands bundles.)
In your post, you mentioned the other direction (activating a DE key in ROW), from what I understand. According to SteamDB, this should work as well, although I can't imagine why someone should try that. (Sure, the censorship DLC can be turned off in this case, but at least for me, this whole censorship thing is a matter of principle...)

https://steamdb.info/app/67379/subs/
These are the subs with the censorship DLC. The "Store" licenses do not matter, they only control in which regions the game can be purchased via the Steam store page. And none of the relevant "CD key" licenses has any region lock (I guess the German key activates sub 13166). So German keys should also redeem outside of Germany, no matter what Humble says.

Big thanks to Rachel for the fast update!

It looks like we're referring to different posts. I meant this post It seems like German buyers get region-restricted keys for The Darkness II. Even though ROW keys and gifts of the same game should activate just fine in Germany. Proof from a reliable source.

I just regret that some users may have refrained from entering giveaways, which had 'do not enter, if from Germany' or 'does not redeem in [country]' in their description thanks to my overzealous information gathering based on false information provided by humblebundle.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not your (or anyone's) fault, and I even believe Humble prefers to show false information rather to be held responsible for (and refunding) non-redeemable keys.
They'd have to check for every game: which sub does this activate? Are there region locks?
Easier to say that everything's region locked, even if it isn't.

(Stuff we have to check before buying a game that is censored or blocked here. Every. Single. Time.)

And if a giveaway creator is not directly (or knowingly) affected by censorship, it's only human to believe that false information. Lucky for us that we have reliable information sources!

This convoluted mess could easily have been avoided, if the publisher gave them correct information. This also isn't the first time humblebundle deals poorly with things like region-lock and providing half-baked or entirely wrong information regarding restrictions.

Sorry for the bump, but that game was originally banned from activation in Germany when it came out. It's normal for one hand at a publisher not to know what another did several years ago.
