Will You Be Backing Chronicles of Elyria Kickstarter?
But all I'd get is a list of replies asking where the potato option was if I missed it out ;)

There was a game a while ago with somehow similar mechanics, if you died in it, you had to pay the retail price again to create a new character. Is this the same one?
I can see "Spark of Life" costing 50$ according to their kickstarter reward section.

I just read the notes, it seems it takes more than one lifespan to die permanently.
Overall it looks great if the final game is what the team is talking about right now but still based on experience, every huge hype like this turns out to be a huge disappointment in the end. Also I really doubt it would become that popular since people rather play an easy mmo and focus on hard stuff whenever they want, but in CoE everything seems to be hard.
I always wished for a mmorpg with a destructive world, hope they won't change it.

Just came across this one:
Sparks of Life | Chronicles of Elyria utilizes a new business model never before seen in MMOs. CoE hearkens back to the coin-op arcade model where, for $30, players buy a Spark of Life that grants a soul the opportunity to live for between 10 and 14 months, before establishing your Soul in a new character of your choosing. (Note: 1 Spark of Life comes with purchase of the game.)

so, to simplify it, 1 spark of life will gain the player to play in around 1 year, then re-purchase them again, seem fair. They also claim that $50 for 1 spark of life, literally, we pay around $5 each month, still affordable for a MMORPG. I've played through many MMORPG that have cash-shop or microtransaction so just hoping this devs only make cash-shop for cosmetic items.

Apparently you can also buy sparks of life with the in game currency you earn from doing different activities. It's probably gonna be pretty expensive but still it motivates you a little to play the game and do the activities that you might miss otherwise.

In Chronicles of Elyria, the Story Points you earn (by completing in-game activities that help advance the story) can be traded in between lifetimes in order to buy Sparks of Life. This is what we call the “Earn-to-Play” model of funding.
I'm pretty sure there will be another currency for purchasing items and stuff. I mean in a game this realistic, it would be weird to buy weapons with story points.

I guess this is their equivalent of an annual fee .. It's certainly an interesting concept and I'd accept an annual $30 a year fee if the game was good enough

Each time your character dies in game reduces your spark of life duration by 2 days. There is a contradiction as it says either $30 or $50 depending on where you read it ..

I am a little unclear but I think you initially fall unconscious if slain in battle and only if another player actually performs a special kill when you are unconscious do you die. However, that player becomes known as a killer and there are disincentives to ensure it does not happen often .. Needs some more clarification methinks

I guess I should have included a poll option - I'm only here for the developer physical appearance critique ;)

I had not watched the video until your comments sparked my curiosity...
Now I can't sleep.
Thanks, m3rc and eeev...

I've checked their Kickstarter and the idea looks really awesome on paper. I honestly doubt that such concept would work in an MMO, though...

I have my doubts too but glad they are at least trying :)

The description and features listed looked refreshing to me, its been years since I got engaged in a MMO so hopefully this one will be good.

Ditto. It's been a long time since I've seen something this radically different

• No World or Mini-Map | Map makers and cartographers have a place in CoE, helping players navigate their world. But watch out, because treasure maps can be faked and locations may be renamed, leading NPCs to refer to a town by the most used name.
I like how this game will be.
Waifu city, kek country, ass empire
