no, some channels are gonna have sub fees to be subed to them. Someone of which might have them include, the onion and machinima (of course...)

Oh, well I don't watch them anyway. They just put out too much stuff that is far to varied. I like to sub to people that have at least a somewhat consistent entertainment value.

That'd never happen, it would kill Youtube. People don't like switching sites, but if they force a subscription, people will find a new, free, site to post their videos.

If this is true, then this is great. Means less people will watch crap channels like PewDiePie and Tobuscus.

No, it just means their brainless fanbase is gonna give 'em more money to watch the same crap over and over again.

As little as $2 for a channel subscription. This wont change EVERY channel out there to "pay to watch" it's just certain channels, like the article says, ones that aren't even aired yet most likely.

You can get Google and Youtube on TV's, in places you can get Google Fiber internet connection. They want to take TV producers, get them on youtube through paid channels to make money to create their shows, and dominate TV through the already popular Youtube. Not making your average joe's youtube channel "pay to watch". This is a VERY smart and VERY good marketing and business plan by Google and it will happen eventually. I don't mind it, I can't afford any of their "pay to watch" things, but that wont affect me.

If they force all channels to do so, they will destroy youtube, and then it would affect me.
Big deal people will make money and TV producers will move to the internet. It's just another step in the age of Television coming to an end and the age of the Internet rising.

I read through the article a little too fast the first time, and it doesn't sound as bad now, though I'm still not sure. If it's only channels which will have high production, it should be fine, and I hope it works out for them. I'm just afraid it may be a slippery slope, and more and more channels will start charging monthly subscription fees. If this happens, Youtube is going to start getting less and less popular. People seem to get real jumpy when rumors break of a free site suddenly charging subscription fees, even if it's only optional, like this.

Its not like they're forcing people to do this. Most people make enough money off regular ads and wont switch.

Majority of youtubers will probably not take advantage of this because they make more money off merchandising and stuff. I think this service will exist for TV channel stuff, like maybe Adult Swim would feature full episodes instead of clips. Just my theory, I know this is not bad news and does not effect most of us. I also know this is not the first time youtube brought something like this up...
Now that I think of it, didn't at one time youtube allow a service where you pay to download the videos? I think Vlog Brothers did that. Youtube downloaders probably did a dint on the concept, however.
