Great find, thanks! Though I am a bit confused about pricing, there are two options for me, one with the survival mode and a story mode and one without the story mode. The first option is signficantly cheaper but offers more. Am I missreading something?

the Survival Mode is the stand-alone product. better go with the package which include both story and survival.

Survival mode is free-form gameplay, you set your own goals and create your own stories based on how you interpret what happens in the game session.

Story mode is a linear, narrative-driven mode that shares most of the same mechanics of Survival mode, but also adds clear and directed objectives for you to 'complete' and 'progress', all the while telling a story about the world you inhabit (which is the same as Survival mode).

You can definitely do it without Story Mode, but I found it very engaging once I got into it. It also helps to ease you into the game and teach some mechanics gradually, something that is missing from Survival Mode where you are off to the races from the very first moment.

Is it complete though? Have they finally released the last episode?

Thank you for chiming in. I wasn't actually following their release schedule, and I don't think I even made it to the end of the available chapters - I remember getting really burnt out after the whole 'struggle with bear in a cave' bit and kind of dropped it afterwards. Maybe end of Chapter 2?

EIther way, Hinterland is still actively working on the game. One or two months ago they released a new update with base-building and trading with an NPC, so the game is still being supported

I played it a bit good while ago, I got to the bear cave part and was unable to progress due to a game breaking bug. I decided that since I needed to wait for the issue to be fixed, I'd just wait for the story mode to be finished before I'd play the game again. ...aaaand still waiting. :D

I don't think there's doubt about the game being supported/updated or not. The previous episode of the story released in 2021, but the devs are relatively active in posting updates and they are soon pushing out a visual enhancement update. But it is slightly ridiculous that they released and completed a DLC (Tales from the Far Territory, from 2022 to 2024) even though the base game's storyline is still unfinished years later... Good that they have more content in mind, but finishing the main story should have been a priority all this time.

Great game, one of my favourite survivals - very immersive, and somehow both cozy and stressful at the same time!
One of my comfort games that I get back to from time to time.

This game is f*cking amazing, i highly recommend people that like survival story telling to give it a shot. I remember being "turned off" by the introduction to the game, the initial part can be quite misleading...

It's not the perfect game, do keep that in mind, but for an indie studio, this is a very good product.

EDIT: I do remember there being a good amount of stressful situations with the game later on, do not want to spoil the plot but there are moments the game forces you to go through something that might not be well built, so essentially you could spend a good portion of your time doing a "trial and error" approach for quite some time until you finally get it done.

All I can say is, with over 700 hours on survival, it was worth every penny for me. However I will admit that these days, I can rarely play long as the end game has gotten too easy to achieve, and as a result I get bored quickly without a challenge, but... As a fresh player, it's an experience.
