I believe so, I made a joke about the Cross being too much to bear a while back and I don't think he found it very funny :(
Or he wasn't bourne to bear that cross, or something like that. The joke was funny, that's all that matters.

Yeah, I saw that ninja edit you did in that other thread that included this. I was wondering how long it was gonna take to bring up that Mod. I've heard stories, but it was before my time being active here.
For what it's worth, I think you guys are doing great with what you have to work with. I can't imagine the stress attached to trying to moderate a forum. Can't make any judgements unless you've walked in that person's shoes. :)

I always feel bad for the support staff around here. They put up with a lot more than anyone else here, and rarely get recognized for it. And they're not even getting paid.. They volunteer their time to help others with site issues, so a little appreciation is definitely due.
Thanks to all of you. You're doing something most of the rest of us couldn't, and doing it quite well. :3

He was still a dick. I just understand why he was a dick now.

He was certainly one of the most polarising figures this site ever had. My (admittedly occasional) interactions with him were always positive, but that doesn't mean I was a fan of his methods or general conduct. If he were still around, chances are he would have made swift work of the people involved in the most recent troubles. But then again, after all he had been through, he would be a different man now from the jade of old.
I actually kind of miss him.

Moderators & support really don't get the recognition they deserve. Sure, they'll make the occasional mistake, and they'll decide differently from what you'd decide often enough. But that happens everywhere where humans are involved.
Fact remains that these people are the ones investing their spare time trying to keep the site running and trying to keep the community in check.
So they should get a round of applause every once in a while, just to show gratitude for their efforts.

Wow is this story real? From the responses it seems so. Tough job you guys have, phew... to also remain objective...
I think what makes moderation so hard is that "freedom of speech" to express ones opinions is sometimes mistaken as a personal attack.
Then too sometimes opinions expressed as the right of freedom of speech are used as a sly cover for personal attacks...
And who's to say which is which...
and are personal attacks also freely covered under the "beauty" of the rights to freedom of speech?
And since freedom of speech is so valued, can one really moderate without being considered as denying or discouraging free speech?
Too many variables, and I have no opinions on this or answers... the variables always keep me stumped ... clueless.

yeah +1
lol. in order to run efficient in those ways SG would have to have its own 24/7 on-hand psychologist & lawyer both. this isn't facebook for christ sake, not that kinda moderation is available here for them to turn to another person in an office and ask their lawyer or psychologist. these people are regular users ffs.. i think people imagine them all being in a local office building together or something like that where could seek advise from the professionals that would be needed in those situations.

Once upon a time, there was a little moderator who tried to moderate the forums. He went through every little thread, finding even the most well hidden offenses, and applied what came to be known as the deadly banhammer on the meanies of the steamgifts world. What started happening? Everyone started to hate him. He didn't do anything wrong, he just tried to stem the tide of abuse that was gripping the steamgifts community. And in doing so, he became bitter. Bitter, jaded, and even suicidal. His depression and suicidal thoughts grew worse, until one day, he had to quit. And quit he did. Some may say good riddance, that he didn't deserve to be a moderator. I was once included in this number. But now things have clearly changed, and I, for one, realize the reason for his inclinations.
Edit: To be clear, I don't mean the depression and suicidal thought inclinations :P
