Guess it is to avoid spam and scam by decreasing bot capacity to add people

Huh? You still can though? Like I literally just did that just to check if you couldn't anymore.

This is the new Internet. People are not just afraid of strangers, they're afraid of friend requests from strangers. So brave. We really need WW3 to put a stop to this mass pussification.

The "Friendcode" is just the Steam 3 ID...

because that's valve...

I was just saying that the "friendcode" is not new. It was always connected to your accout. But yeah, searching just for a username is not working anymore. If you have a link to the profil you could use https://steamidfinder.com/ but... well than you can also just add the person via the profil.

Prob. it's to avoid mass-invites like when people searched for "gamer" or something

Well that's weird. But searching by nickname did get useless a long time ago, there's too many users on Steam for that. So I guess if you have a friend give you their code outside of steam, it's much easier this way.

I dunno, if I'm adding someone, I usually already have a link to their profile. Didn't use this anyway.

I've never added anyone outside of their profile page.

With Steam's last event, giving away so many free levels which increases friends count limit, now this invite link, maybe Steam wants users to make more friends. Who knows.

With the last event the steamlevel says nothing anymore... fakes now easy at level 20 :(

Oh wow, didn't notice that before.
That's going to make it hard to find people... but on the other hands less spam friend request!

I think it's just to make it easier to find your friend. I've had times where I wanted to add someone, asked for their username and I just ended up with a bunch of results which made things confusing. At that point I would just ask for their profile link and add them that way.

You can still search for "friends" if you go to Community > Home https://steamcommunity.com/home
