Mankind Divided will make it possible. Boss battles don't necessarily involve combat anymore unlike Human Revolution. As a full time pacifist+ghost stealth purist, I've been following this feature closely on all stealth games, upcoming or already released.

If there are cutscenes where Adam is beating up people, then I can't do anything about that. However within the game itself I am in control and I can progress without knocking out anyone. I've already done that in Human Revolution except forced boss battles.

Yes, I was. Human Revolution is Deus Ex 3.
Although ever since I actually found people who thought Fallout 3 was the first in the Fallout series (because that big-ass 3 in the title wasn't a hint enough), I guess it can be normal that people just treat the modern sequels as the first entry in a gaming franchise…
(I wonder how long before Doom4 will be treated as the first Doom game and the series be treated as a Bethesda-created franchise. I give two years tops.)

I played Fallout 1-2 and Tactics by the way. They are my childhood games and I loved them more than Bethesda's Fallout. I also already knew Deus Ex had previous games before Human Revolution. I just didn't meet the Deus Ex franchise on time. Human Revolution was randomly gifted to me last year, that is when I played it and I will play the first game eventually. It's one of the rare classical stealth games I haven't played yet. My statement of "first game" was a mistake, I should have said "previous game". I have a headache and lack of sleep. Slips up unfortunately happen. Pardon the mistake please.

Nah, I apologise for my usual rant. ^^'
As for Deus Ex 1… not many newcomers can enjoy it now. That engine really shows its age. Not in graphics per se, but the depth its scripts and AI could go at the time. (And modder attempts of modernising the scripted events didn't lead to good results.)

Ah good old Malkavian mod. The damn thing had me in stitches at times. If you liked that, you'll probably enjoy this classic walkthrough, as well :D
Also this never gets old.

You have to kill her, but you can do it without a confrontation, as she is not immortal on the 747, so the player can set a simple trap with the explosive barrels in the cargo hold. You can kill her by not even being on the same floor to witness her death. :)

I finished first one just with one kill xD This crazy dude who wanted to have head-gun installed don't remember his name :(
I don't think there was a way to avoid him :/

Yeah - now I remember. I used secred code to get rid of her xD no violence but she was dead anyway.

Boss battles don't necessarily involve combat anymore
I really wouldn't put it that way. At this time it seems that you could compare doing boss fights in MD the stealthy way to the Mr Freeze fight in Arkham City (and I wouldn't call that "not involving combat").
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't play Arkham City so I don't really know. And I added "don't necessarily" to my quote on purpose because I already read that link and I know it won't be all about dialogues. I am more focused on their statement that the game can be fully ghosted and you can finish it without killing anyone. That is what I am excited about the most.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, then you should. :) I don't know what's your opinion on Arkham's combat system, but I'm pretty sure that you'd enjoy the concept and execution of this boss fight.
If I remember correctly I wasn't THAT far from doing a pacifist on HR. But you know, you can't just put a bunch of enemies near some explosive barrels and expect me to not do something evil. >:)

I was never really interested in Batman games cause after trying out Arkham Asylum for a couple of hours, I realised that it was too action/combat heavy for me. When I asked my friends about how much of it could be stealthed (regarding all recent Batman games), noone could answer as they don't care about stealth at all :D
That being said, I just watched that boss encounter on Youtube and it looked intriguing even though I still don't like boss fights. I kinda like the boss encounter in Thief (the most recent one) before the final chapter. It was quite challenging but it was still possible to avoid it completely by sneaking around.
Have you tried stealthing in Batman games? If so, is it possible for you to tell me how big a part it plays in the gameplay? Thanks in advance :P

I only really played City and ghosting even individual segments is kinda out of the question, since if I remember correctly you can't really advance in closed areas if there're still enemies walking around.
That said even considering that a large portion of the game consists of this "jumping from enemy to enemy" combat there are still quite a few sections where you mostly have to hunt for enemies that decided to isolate themselves and take them out silently. The enemies also adapt to your tactics in those sections. For example, if you do a lot of takedowns while sitting on a stone gargoyle, some brutes will start scanning the gargoyles for your presence.
Oh, and most of the Catwoman stuff is stealth based.
So yeah, I'm not sure that you could absolutely enjoy it, but if you could get it for a really cheap price then maybe you should give it a chance. :)
I still don't like boss fights
Why do I get the feeling that you don't have a soft spot for MGS? :p
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't really play earlier MGS games. Honestly I didn't even know MGS could be stealthed. Whenever I saw a video of it, it involved tons of explosions and shooting. My ignorance was later corrected. I enjoyed MGS Phantom Pain a lot, but not those chapters with boss fights :P Especially the [Extreme] Metallic Archaea mission which made me want to tear out my hair :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, MGS 1-4 (not totally sure about PW) have always some sort of mandatory combat alerts that you just have to shoot through (but at least 3 and 4 can be done non-lethal).
Nice. :D Honestly, the only boss fight I did on EXTREME was Quiet that Handkerchief... THE FEELS IiviI I liked the regular Sahelanthropus fight, but I can't be bothered to do mission 50 :p

The devs went on record saying you can complete the game without killing anyone, if you so choose. That's probably about as pacifist as it gets when it comes to these kinds of action-oriented games.
Comment has been collapsed.
You can't do much if there are fixed cutscenes with your character beating up a bunch of people. But in the game itself it can be controlled IF the game gives you that chance. I am not talking about killing only, this is including knocking out or any kind of violence or other suspicious or alarming behaviour.
So when I mean pacifist, I really do mean 0 violence as much as that game allows me during my playthrough. If despite me ghosting and not even touching anyone, my character still kills/beats up someone in the ending or during some cutscene in any part of the game, well it's out of my hands at that point as the game was intended that way. I will still go on to not hurting anyone in any way when that cutscene ends.

Didn't no man's sky or other game taught us not to ever trust scores, in the end it is pretty subjective...like music. I am being very subjective here though and say even if mu pc won't run this game i will still buy it to hear Michael McCann. At deus ex human rev. i was sold by the time i got to the main menu. If the score will be half as good as human rev. it will be like paying easy money for amazing concert/opera/symphony etc.
The story of human rev. was amazingly good, cutscenes and small details...oh man kept my playin' over and over . Mankind i was sold from crazy long first trailer, score seems to be there so i can't wait to see in game score.
But honestly an 84 score would suffice for any game but for this that could've been 12 or 99 ...it's impossible for this game to flunk. The team devs were and are amazing, they listened to us, postponed showed scores before.
If anything this is amongst the few games that really deserve preordering. Think gta V and witcher 3, foundation is solid = good game and EIDOS MONTREAL is KING!

No , yeah...but i was just referring to the flaw of most people... blindly trust scores and grades. Scores give you a small idea but the only way to find out is to test it yourself.

I need to play the previous one so I'll buy it in a sale or something later
Comment has been collapsed.
Aye. I need to re-play the entire series again. Haven't got any of the achievements after I bought them XD

Well nobody can yet (unless you're press), but at least you can preload already :D

Still think Jensen was a poor choice for protagonist (he was dull and bland in HR), but I love Deus Ex and anything cyberpunk. Will play the shit out of it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah. While I love the Deus Ex series and loved Human Revolution, the plot was a bit weak and Jensen was nowhere as likable as JC Denton.
Comment has been collapsed.
Haha yeah, but they re-used the wrong one. Jensen is a generic block of wood.

I'll buy it a year later when it goes on a decent sale during one of the holiday sales. I don't like to pre-order anything and I don't care to be the first ones to play any game. I have a huge backlog anyway. Besides, they will come out with a GOTY or definitive edition, which I'll prefer to buy. That is the reason I haven't bought The Witcher 3 yet. Waiting for the Enhanced Edition. XD
Comment has been collapsed.
True. But I was talking about how they will have the game and it's DLC together in one package. Saves me from getting each one individually. And hopefully all the bugs might get patched by then too.

I despise FPS as a genre ... i literally cannot play any FPS games anymore .
No real reason tbh , i just cant ...
Also my PC @ the time Deux EX HR came out was garbage and couldnt run the game ... so i watched a LP of the game instead .
I tried playing it later on when i got an upgrade , but i just did not enjoy the gameplay .
I do love the story tho :)

the game is currently sitting on a Metascore of 84
I don't trust Metacritic's ratings.
Based on these reviews, I will now break that rule.
Don't be fooled by reviews, decide with your own head.
Tech Stuff: PC port seems to be of decent quality, if initial reports are to be believed
Yeah, initial reports with exa-core i7s, quad-sli titans, and countless amounts of RAM.
That said, I'm still burned that I missed the price glitch on Square's store for the 1st Deus Ex...

And how exactly, if reviews are done with overblown computers, reviees can't be trusted, and the game costs as much as it does? I mean going after one's head has a nice cling to the expression, but if one totally clueless like every single everyday gamer is before buying, it's just useless. Reviews at least give a score from a technical standpoint, so if one likes the concept and the reviews are good, it sounds nice. (If anyone buys a game unintrested in just because it has good reviews, well job well done. No further comment on it)

You can put as much faith or doubt in the score as you wish, in the end it's just a weighted aggregate of some more or less arbitrarily determined numbers, I realise that. I choose to use it as an indicator, something to acknowledge when considering a purchase. It's good to know that the gaming press in general seems to like the game, that's useful information. Will I like the game as much as the score would imply? That's a different matter.

I tend to gravitate towards reviewers I've been following for a long time myself, heck, the review I'm most partial to (from a site I've been reading almost daily for the past 8 years no less) doesn't even assign a numerical score. That said, this is a game I've been greatly anticipating for a long time, reading up on previews and watching gameplay demos for the past year. Short of the game being a complete shit show, chances are I would have bought it at launch. As described by reviewers, the game seems to deliver on those promises for the most part - that's good to know. I feel I've gleaned enough information from the reviews I've read for me to "decide with my own head" whether this will be a worthwhile purchase for me.
Yeah, initial reports with exa-core i7s, quad-sli titans, and countless amounts of RAM.
Near the bottom of the charts in those Russian benchmarks I linked to you can see how the game scales on lower-end/older CPUs. It's a pre-lease build though, so the numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. Admittedly, CPU/RAM performance isn't an issue for me with my current setup :P Actually, I was meaning to also link to this user report here with more down to earth specs, which does sound promising. Fingers crossed they can eke out more performance with the upcoming DX12 implementation, though.
That said, I'm still burned that I missed the price glitch on Square's store for the 1st Deus Ex...
If you ever get the chance, I strongly recommend you check out the original game. If you can get past the dated graphics (they haven't really aged well), you're in for a one of a kind experience (and I do not use those words lightly!).

I'd really like to play it, I like this series, but for now it's a no-go because I'm expecting permanent paycheck cut (due to external and unavoidable circumstances) and playing games is the last of my worries right now. It's not a problem, I can be patient.

Review embargo lifted, and the game is currently sitting on a Metascore of 84. Respectable score, that - although not the 90 that its predecessor(s) reached.
Consensus seems to be that this newest release is a more refined version of Human Revolution's stealth 'em up action with a pretty solid story but lacking in any meaningful character progression for sad old Jensen. An augmented version of the latter game, you could say. Hur hur hur. I'm not one to complain, I guess. More Deus Ex is always a good thing in my book. The original game ranks among my all-time favourite games. I have one rule when it comes to buying games, and that is: never pre-order anything. Based on these reviews, I will now break that rule.
Tech Stuff: PC port seems to be of decent quality, if initial reports are to be believed, and you can peruse a graphics comparison of the settings here. (Implementation of DX12 has been delayed until 5th September, presumably while the devs work on optimisation. Probably a good thing if these Russian benchmarks of the pre-release build are any indication).
