Lately I've gotten an itch to play a fun Dino game. Turok is way up there for me, but I'm wondering if either ARK: Survival Evolved or Evolve are worth picking up? Also, do retail copies of Evolve come with a Steam key?

Thank you in advance for any help. :)

ARK: Survival Evolved.
One of the best and most active early access games on Steam.

If they brought Dino Crisis 1 and 2 to Steam and/or GOG I'd snap them up immediately. :)

Well, I went out and bought boxed copies of 1 and 2 for PC. Hopefully I can get them to run on a modern system. I still hope they come to Steam and GOG as I'll get them for sure. :)

I don't know if dino crisis was popular, but it definitively will become on steam.

I don't think this is quite what you're looking for but, Jump Jet Rex. It's a 2D platformer where you are a T-rex named Rex. That's all the dino games I know of.

You don't want Evolve.

Is it that bad? It seems like a ton of DLC. Some people make it sound like it went the way of Payday 2?

There just isn't a big player base for the game. Even during its free weekend some time ago there weren't many people playing it. A lot of the content is locked in DLC and it has two season passes.

If people are not playing the game and the game was released in 2015, that is a bad sign.

ARK: Survival Evolved
Crafting + "Pokemon" + Optional PVP&Multiplayer + Survival, ohhh yessssss

Wouldn't bother with Evolve personally.

Sure, it's actually not that bad. Some grind if you want 100% though.

ARK: Survival Evolved

Primal Carnage isn't bad for a quick bit of silly fun. But there aren't many servers.

Orion prelude or Guardions of orion, last one is the newest one. Dont let the low price of prelude fool you. Dev never. Raised the price when it was accapteble too do so

Ark is one of the best Dino games, its the only one good at steam.

If you want the monthly humble bundle is giving that for those who subscribe.
But unless you want to wait for a big sale its probably the better option or trade with someone.

Just kidding, that game is free on browser

Is it free on browser? I didn't know this. I literally just bought it om Steam for a friends birthday this morning because he's a dinosaur fanatic and enjoys games of that style. It has a Pyramid Head hat which he seemed to love even more as a fan. xP

Yeah! I believe there is a free multiplayer version... let me google real quick
Yep! Here is the multiplayer version
I'm pretty sure the one you bought must have something in special that separates it from the browser versions though. P:

Thanks for the link. :3 It definitely seems like the Steam version was worth it then, my friend is getting a lot of enjoyment out of it, which I believe I also have the hats he mentioned to thank for. I'd probably recommend it to anyone who's a fan of dinosaurs and Marvel/DC.

If he's having fun then it was worth the cash! :)
The game itself is actually prettyy fun, I remember playing it a lot back then :D

Definitely worth the cash! Oddly enough though, he's actually expressed disinterest in ARK, I can't recall the reason why though. If someone as into dinosaurs as he is can't recommend it, I can't either (Note: I've not played it). Since I can't recall the reason, it was probably something along the lines of a majority of the dinosaurs being misclassified or something of that nature (He studied to be a paleontologist).

Well if you ask me, Ark seems okay. It just seems like the game that's gonna get old too fast judging from what I've seen in gameplays.
Paleontologist though, that's pretty awesome !
Edit: you've made me kind of want to get Dino Run on steam now, I was checking out the store page and they even talk about the web versions and justify the steam version ! Ahh screw it, I'll probably try to get it sometime !!
Childhood memories 2 strong.

i have to say ARK. I've spent 400 hours+ on that, It requires a average rig but its worth the EA price. They add new Dinos and features every month so its not one of those dead EA projects.

it's construction and management, what TC wants is a some sort of action survival.

it's a good "simcity" game, but they added building limits to each item you can make which makes the game pretty boring after a while...
at least the game config is easy to edit and you can remove those. :3

I wouldn't classify Evolve as a "Dino" game. Only get it when you have at least 3 friends - better 4 - that want to play with you. And yes, retail copy of Evolve comes with a Steam key and requires its activation.
Besides Ark you could look at those (all have been in bundles, were/are cheap or even free)
Dino D-Day
Orion: Prelude
Primal Carnage
theHunter: Primal

But ARK undoubtedly is the best out of those...
I just noticed there even is a tag "Dinosaurs" =) and there is also LEGO JurassicPark

Probably the best choice, after Turok, is Jurassic Park: The Game. :)
