GameStop APP & DRM [question]

I'm wondering if let's say Baldur's Gate which is marked as DRM free, yet requires "THIS GAME REQUIRES THE GAMESTOP APP", could be launched without said app? Is it Moddable and backup-able?

You would probably need the app to run it, but it definitely must be there to download the game.
