People can vote for a game to last 4 or 6 hours, unlimited games can last 10h+ in theory but usually they are conceded much earlier if there is a clear winner. Helps a lot that they are always played at online speed which is twice as fast as standard.

For people tired of silly AI and horrible pub games full of quitters there's Civ Players League, a No Quitters ranked ladder, where you can play with humans of all skill levels and improve while having fun. There are even several weekly scheduled novice games to guarantee new players can learn without being stomped on all the time. Owning both Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm is required for all games, DLCs are optional.
