If you can play it without having to use a VPN, then you're completely fine, and I think you're able to, otherwise steam should not make it possible to redeem such key (but I know pretty well steam fuckups, so that assumption is more like a guess).
RU probably comes from retailer, but doesn't mean that key is region locked. For example, my Witcher 3 copy is and was always marked "Witcher 3 RU", now it's "Witcher 3 RU (OLD)", which never had a region lock and I'm able to play it without using any VPN or likewise. In fact, I'd not even risk if that wasn't a case.

You'll have to rush B every time now. Other than that, you should be fine if you can run the game without VPN activated.

You can put your CD Key (viewed inside of Steam) into GOG.com to get the GOG deluxe DRM-free version: https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup
Then if it gets removed from your steam acct for some reason you'll still the DRM-free version from GOG :)

There's nothing deluxe about the GOG version as you get all the extras on steam as well. They're just under Tools not games.

Ah-ha, yeah you are right. https://steamdb.info/depot/20932/

Your point about redeeming the key on GOG though is still perfectly valid.

Well, CD Projekt Red being tied in to GOG and all, it'd be pretty untoward for them to not promote their same policies toward bonus content when releasing their own games on Steam-
Though, being that you can activate on GOG with your Steam key, there's nothing really lost, so they certainly could have done that as a way to attract people to the platform. =O

I checked SteamDB, and the only difference I found, is that the RU version can only be bought in RU/CIS region, but otherwise, it's exactly the same as any other version.
The only thing that you have to worry now, is that it could have been obtained in not-so-legit ways, and it could be deactivated.

So long as you do not use a VPN to activate or to be able to play, it's fine. Valve isn't going to fault where you got a key from--but if you bypass regional restrictions to redeem or play a game, that's another story.
As Mike90 says, the only concern you should really have is whether your key gets revoked because it came from a scamser.

As long as its activated without using vpn and playable , it should be fine .
Plus you can use the cd-key in steam and activate the game in gog.com

Hi everyone.
Just bought the witcher 2 from g2a. Despite it was supposed to be a GLOBAL key, once I activated it I read (RU) after the name of the game.
I know some ppl had troubles for activating russian keys using a VPN. I did NOT have to use a VPN to activate the key, so I suppose it was not region locked or something. Is there something I should worry about? Is my acc completely safe?
Thanks.
