Dying light, or killing floor? None really came to mind immediately but those are what steam recommends.

Co-op and horror usually don't mix well. It's hard to be scared when someone is with you.
Besides the stuff above there is also RE6(prob scarier than RE5, RE5 not scary at all even alone.)
Also FEAR3, but heard it isn't really scary.

I hear 1 and 2 are slightly scary.
I hear 3 jumps the shark.

I haven't played it, myself, but maybe Cry of Fear is worth considering. (Up to 4-player co-op and it's free.)

Exactly as IgotElbows says: Once there is someone with you while watching/playing a horror movie/game, you won't be able to freak out, at least it will be much harder, because you feel the presence of someone else, therefore you feel yourself secure.
But if you want to play something together, get/fire up Garry's Mod, and browse from a wide range of horror maps.

Dead Space 3 is actually made more for a co-op experience. You could try that, but reminder: You can find Dead Space and DS II on Steam but the third one is Origin only. Not a problem for the most but some people are strictly against Origin so I just thought of telling that :)
Here's a playlist of the co-op gameplay: Dead Space 3 Hard Co-op. Check some of those vids and you can see how it works. I can't comment much since I didn't have a co-op partner when I played the game but the game itself is ok, a bit different from two earlier games but I have heard that the co-op works well. There are even missions which are meant purely for co-op, you can't access them solo.
Then there is Don't Starve Together. Supposedly really fun and challenging game :) Can't really say much else since haven't played it yet. I have some hours on Don't Starve which is really hilarious experience and if the co-op is same thing then I truly recommend this.

You could try out "Damned". 4 Players need to find random spawned keys to leave the haunted level, while 1 player plays the monster and tries to kill them. One of my favorite games ever. It's pretty intense every single time I play it.

(while it costs 20eu on steam, You can get it for 4eu on different key sites ;>)

Currently, me and my friends want a co op multiplayer horror game, we would like it to be akin to a cooperative story driven game, such as outlast. Thank you for any responses in advance!
