Just curious as to how streamlined other users rigs are at boot time.
As soon as I see the desktop
After windows unloads certain programs
Additional programs loaded after boot: Anti-virus, Daemon tools pro, MSI Afteburner and Nvidia drivers.
Windows options stopped: UAC, Aeros, Windows Live/GFWL, Homegroup(no other Win7 rig on network) and many others.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit.
I like to have max performance when gaming. Hate it when some program in the backgroud decides to "call home" and steals either CPU cycles, bandwidth and more often than not both, which causes lag in game.
If you want to take back control of your computer this may interest some of you. Just write down on paper any changes you make so they can be undone if needed.

I don't know about you, but I am always multitasking. Video calls, two web browsers, steam, random other programs, and then a game on top of all of it. Runs just fine.

no, I'm confident enough that my Processor can multi-task all the shit that windows 7 ultimate throws at it.

I normally run games while my ram is hovering around 2.1gig and I don't do any tweaking. IMO, all those tweaking and stuff only contributes 1-5fps of performance improvements which is minuscule enough to let it pass

Unless you are severely short of RAM, ie 2GB, those numbers are pointless.
Also, if you want to talk about disabling programs and services, there is a guide online about what each service does and a general recommendation for a "streamlined" rig.

Amen, I made sure when I left Canada the laptop I got 1. had the best gpu I could get and 2. 12GB RAM. It should run anything I want for the two years I am overseas. The internet on the other hand.... not so good.

my gaming rig is not streamlined its bulky, boxy, and creates drag when the wind blows

I've got plenty of extra cycles to leave all the things running.

You are still running heavy, a bit, if you are using an anti-virus. I haven't bothered with one in at least a decade. I'll scan occasionally, though.

I obsessively tweak mine and disable everything possible. It starts up like it just took a speedball.

Yeah, it is pretty aerodynamic, but it did not fly. 0/10 would not streamline again.

Damn, that's a low resource usage. Mine is around 1.15 - 1.20 GB (with just Avast and Rainmeter running, at startup), although I am using a laptop which came with a load of crap pre-installed. Though I did disable most of the features, some of them are essential (for the FN button to function, for it to detect wifi etc.)

I'll look at that site later and try to shrink it further though.
