I prefer Android. Yes, there are many more apps for iStuff. But I think it's only a matter of time before developers realize that android offers a much more open system, will soon have a large customer base overall with the growing number of android devices, and offers more then the fairly limited iDevices.
That said, it's somewhat similar to the PC vs. Console debate. PCs and Android allow for more customization and different system... which is more of a curse then a blessing for developers since they have to take these factors into consideration and build a game that will work on most things. Consoles and iDevices offer a more focused development at the cost of being more restricted, either by the console maker, the hardware, or similar things. As well, like consoles, Android seems to be where the majority of people are right now. but I think that'll change before long. Unlike console vs. PC, there isn't much different between the two platforms besides what the OS is. They both use touchscreen, have relatively limited hardware (you can't put Crysis-level graphics on a tablet at this point for example), and are meant to be more casual-based (though this isn't always true).

That's why I included the PC comparison. Though since I'm not a developer, I don't understand the difference. I just compared the number of screen sizes, processors, memory, and so forth along the same lines of the incredible variation there is in products for PC ranging from OS to hardware and even playing methods (streaming vs downloading and the like). It's likely more difficult for Android since the input method is roughly the same as opposed to the various size of the touch-screens, but I figured it was an accurate comparison overall.
As for what I said, I do believe that will happen eventually. In the near future? Not likely, but possible. But I do believe it will be embraced more over time, as well as become easier to develop for. But I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

The fragmentation problem is a developer one. So yeah supporting more devices is harder and devs don't like it as much but Android has passed apple market share already and if the user base is there the devs will be there too, even if it's harder. Some fragmentation issues will always exsist but the fragmentation is part of the reason people like android as it gives people choice.
Given a few years the fragmentation won't be as big an issue anyway. Phones are getting better and better it won't be long before all models will have the needed power to run the app most people care about, which means most of the fragmentation issues will be related to checking screen sizes and simple things. They won't have to worry so much about slower phones or ones with less memory.
It's the same kind of thing that happened with PC's. It used to be offices would upgrade every 3 years or so because you simply couldn't run newer apps. Now a days it's not uncommon to see a 6 or 7 year old PC in an office because they are still good enough for office work. At the rate phones are going we will soon reach the point where a 3 year old phone won't be considered incredibly old and can actually run newer apps.

SGS 2 >> iPhone imo. (I am slightly biased)
Also Android > iOS since it is a less constrictive and all round friendlier OS.
As of March 2012, theres 585k of apps in the iOS store & as of May 2012 theres > 500k of apps on the Google Play Store so yeah theres less on Android but when you are talking in excess of half a million apps with a difference of about 80k thats not a huge difference.
TL;DR: I'd go with Android. (again)

I'm not sure if what I'm talking about is right or completely wrong, but I think I heard that the SMB developers had an app called Zits and Giggles on the AppStore and it got removed when the devs said their opinion about Apple which wasn't that good and Apple banned them from the store. But, as I already said, I'm not sure about this.

I never understood why you would buy an iPhone, except you have lots of money to spent or you are an Apple geek...

Ok. BLACKBERRY SUCKS MY DICK<3.
iPhone Pretty good and fast. won't use it for my cellphone maybe for iPad only.
Android: Well, Welcome to heaven. Open source like Linux, Widgets, TONS OF APPS, Proccessors are fastest and also browsing is. I have a samsung galaxy Y and i say i'm very happy with it.

Android... but maybe I'm just biased because I don't have any iDevices.

(tl;dr: my Android S2 is pretty great)
My prior phone was a Blackberry (Bold 9000). It was cool for the time, but Androids had just come out (only the original Nexus then) and I didn't really have a choice in the matter (if I did, I'd have waited for the second gen of Androids).
About two months ago, I finally got a new phone: Android Samsung Galaxy S2.
I love it. Just about anything I need, I can find on the app store, usually for free (I haven't bought anything yet, and don't really intend to). Thus far, I have zero jealousy over iPhones. And honestly, I don't have any jealousy over the brand new S3 either. The S2 works exactly as well as I need it to already.
There are two things I miss from my Blackberry:
The latter one is no longer a problem. I found an app called "NoLED" which displays notification icons right on the screen, including battery charge status and time. It doesn't even drain the battery as much as I feared it might (thank you, "Battery Monitor Widget" for all your amazing battery stats and constantly-vigilant widget that I leave on my home screen).
The Facebook calendar sync... I've yet to find a suitable replacement. The Blackberry was exceptional at this, not just syncing friends' birthdays (which is easy to do on Android), but syncing Events, adding them to your calendar, and allowing you to edit them or remove stupid ones. Additionally, it synced FB contacts (including their current FB profile pics), but Android can do this too.
On the other hand... if you don't have unlimited data... I dunno. I use the shit out of the data because I have unlimited grandfathered in from an old plan.
I guess I also kind of miss the physical keyboard on my old Blackberry, but extra characters (which I use often -- accented chars and all kinds of symbols and the Ctrl key for programming) are a pain no matter which keyboard I'm using (BB or any of the Android soft-keyboards I've tried).
Also, I love that I could (haven't yet) create all the code, art, and audio for an Android game and compile and run it without ever touching my home PC.

Blackberry is only used nowadays in latin america, mostly colombia. I would go for an android

I had to make that same decision like you just about 2 months ago. Went for iPhone 4S (sleeker, fast, beautiful display, wonderful memory (64 GB SSD drive), multiple exclusive apps, just enough any other apps (300-400-500k last time I've checked) and overall cool. You get a style point up if you own an Apple device. That is like my second one overall after my old iPod 5g and all the complaints I had towards that gadget were completely non-existant on the 7 years newer gadget.
Price? For the content you receive, the price is just enough reasonable for me. Definitely not cheap, I spent my savings for the last half an year (I am an university student) on it, but don't regret even a tiny bit. It is just beautiful when you hold it in your hand, screen is magnificent, apps are just unbelievable sometimes, you can literally find an app for almost anything you can think of. Often free. If not - for $1. I have already maybe about 500 apps on my device and more on my iTunes account and I have paid for not more than 20 of them. $1 each. $1 every few days for a new game? Why not?
Another awesome thing about that gadget is the camera and a guy above posted a video shot with it. Can confirm it makes ubelieavable things for a phone. I can confirm sometimes it can make better gems than a cheap ($300 or so) photo camera. Definitely worth it for casual photography, having fun or whenever you need to shoot something fast - you just take out the phone out of your pocket.
I tend to make fun that the only thing that gadget can't do is cooking eggs and be used as a refrigerator. So far I haven't found other faults.
So make your decision wisely and consider what is important for you. First thing which got my attention was storage space (I have a rather huge music library) and really fast accessible data on a SSD drive. Then it came the photo - I checked multiple comarison reviews and sites and all results visibly pointed towards iPhone 4S. It gives depth of field and contrast images which are very rare among photo camerss. Resolution of 8 mpix is another good benefit. Then you just add the dual core CPU and the awesome games that are being made for it. The screen which looks so bright and so real. Android AMOLEDs have a bit more vivid colours. A pinch more than needed. iPhones, I could say, are just perfect.
A lot can be said on that. Try finding some reviews on various websites, they can help you out. Good luck!

Apple makes mediocre products for the stupid, which is fine (if you're stupid or old).
Android has lots of apps. obviously not all of them are on the store. you can also pirate them, if your heart desires.
a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod can greatly improve the phone.
a Blackberry is more useful under a hammer.
Don't even touch windows phones - you might get a virus ;)

Which of these is better:
iPhone- Lots of apps. Expensive. Best UI.
Android-Not as many apps as iphone. Cheap. UI is ok...
Blackberry-Lost another CEO today lol (he got fired).
I think iPhones are overrated. I had every single one of them yet i find that my Samsung Galaxy 2 is a lot better. Lets do a little comparassion.
iPhone4S vs Samsung Galaxy 2.
iPhone 4S-Lots of apps. Shitty camera.retina display. Shitty web browsing.
Samsung Galaxy 2-Not as many apps but excellent camera. amazing color. FASTER web browsing no matter the service.
Which one do you think is better? Why? Do you have any of those?
