edit: Looks like i assumed that we were the ones meant to follow the directions and put the last character first. But it states what OP did, and what we have to revert.
So either vague directions, or next level bot/AI protection

Hmm. It didn't even occur to me that LTR/RTL cultures might interpret it differently.
The way my brain is wired, I still agree with OP's wording, i.e.:
Either
Bot protection was enabled by putting the first character in the last place (correct code: 3ABcd; after obfuscation: ABcd3)
or
Bot protection is disabled by putting the last character in the first place (obfuscated code: ABcd3; correct code: 3ABcd)

No, it's written correctly. Last character in first place would mean ABcd3 becomes Bcd3A.

Only if you read it from right to left
ABcd3 ... A is the first character and 3 is the last.
3ABcd ... is the solution we're given. Which shows they took the last character which is "3" and put it in first place
If we were to put the first character in last place we end up with ... Bcd3A ... which is what i tried at first but it didnt work.
Maybe people see the right side as 1st place, while i see the left side as 1st place?

As other people said nothing ambiguous here. They are not telling you to put anything anywhere, they are stating what they did for the bot protection. They then go to show you how to solve it. Nobody said anywhere what you are saying other than you. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I make the same kind of mistake, just go back and read it slowly and think about it.

The devil is in the detail. By writing
"Bot protection was enabled by putting the first character at the last place"
they clearly say what THEY have done for protection, and not what YOU should be doing to reverse it. Easy to miss but actually not ambiguous at all.

Wow! An option from the wonderful ESGST caused me grief here! I have ESGST set to show last comments first... So I did not see the OP's first comment and spent several long minutes trying to find/solve the "puzzle". Finally giving up in frustration, I scrolled all the way down the comments and saw the table.... no puzzle at all!

That is a very fair point, I often load the last page of comments as well, I forgot that people would miss the first comment if that option was enabled or if there was more than one page of comments!

I did the full inventory of my unredeemed Steam keys and found a bunch of them that were for games I won in here...
Since there were quite a few, I decided to make an event out of it, by creating giveaways for all these keys and mentioning who gifted them to me in the first place as a thank you.
