Currently, me and a friend are looking for some decent MMORPGs. I know World of Warcraft is a good one, but I don't want a subscription based one. We are hoping for a more fantasy one, but without subscription based ones we are a bit limited. As well, I would like to know if there are still any good modern ones with death penalties. Anyway, I know you guys will come through with good responses in the end like you always do, so thanks in advance!

For ME the problem with ´´free2play´´ mmo´s is that usually u end up needing to buy expansions/premium account[to play pvp or to get further into the game] or to play a certain class /bagspace [ due to a minimum amount of]/ more characters as ur sometimes limited to 5ish /talk into general trade/chat

and the most annoying of all having to buy some form of pots/coins/items wich doesnt make ur character tired into performing a certain daily task such as crafting or gathering wich else u would need to wait for a whole day/weeek before u could advance wich would make ur day activity[lol] in an mmo limited.

I have played several mmo's myself i hear good things about guildwars 2 wich is one of few i havent played myself. Eventhough i havent played wow myself for quite a bit now i still think its best mmo out there [MY opinion] but as i was looking for f2p mmo's once like u did i havent found any yet thusfar though eso online seems interesting now that it has gone f2p though u wil probs need to buy stuff i geuss.

Anyways i hope u find what u seek ;p

WoW has game time tokens you can buy with in game gold now. like 20k gold gets you 30 days. buy one month of WoW, get to level 100, and you can make 20k a month easy so you wouldnt have to spend a dime to play

I used to play Runes of Magic. It was a good free2play MMORPG but new patches made it boring and too easy. I have never played it after 60lvl

I don't know if there are death penalties now, but I used to love Lineage II a few years ago.

It used to be subscription based, but now it's f2p.

Runescape! (jokes)
I haven't been playing MMORPGs for a while since they tend to be pretty big timesinks, but the one I've been looking at the most is
ESO - The upfront cost is a bit much for me still, but I hear they took out the subscription fee

ArcheAge shat the bed, Guild Wars 2 is good, Elder Scrolls Online is good (I've really been enjoying it), I played a tiny bit of the Secret World and it seemed alright
