Hey,
I'm relative new here, so I have a question about the Level..

At 22 PM yesterday, I hit level 4.
Now I'm back and I notice, that I'm back at level 3.

What is the reason for those downgrades?
Looking at my Trading history, there was no bad Feedback, so it wasn't because of a GA I made.

Have a nice day :)

It's due to

  1. Unbundled game get into bundled game list and the CV gain from that game drop to 15% retroatively.
  2. Game price drop.

Most of the time it's the first case.

this.
only: retroactively

Point 1, seriously? It shouldn't work backwards, it's retarded to be honest.

Its only when you creat GA and the game should be on bundle list. They add it manually so if you created after it should have been on list, your CV will drop. If you created before it will not drop.

It happens all the time, don't worry and don't think about it too much. I've been to lvl 9 and back to 8 like 34 times already. Site does not have fixed price for games, but takes them IRL from Steam and prices change all the time on Steam (like permanent price drops after some time from release) so your total calculated CV over here can drop too... and what i2apier said also.

I've noticed that the prices for a few games can be bugged from time to time. Blackguards is an offender that makes my level bounce between 3 and 4 for no reason.

The site calculates your contributor level based on the current full price of the game on steam. If you give away a game that is valued at $25 and then that game lowers it's price (permanent, not a sale) to $20, now you are only getting credit for a $20 instead of $25.

When you give away a game that has been bundled you get 15% of the full steam price. Each game that gets bundled has to be manually added to the bundle list and this sometimes takes time. If you give away a game that was bundled, but steamgifts has not added it to the bundle list yet, you will get full value for the game until they add it to the bundle list. When they add the game to the bundle list, they will date it as bundled from the date the game was originally bundled and everyone that gave the game away after that date will have their value adjusted to the correct 15% bundle value.

There are also sometimes errors where you will get more credit than you should for a game while there is some special deal happening on steam and then when that deal is over the price will drop back down to where it should be. This happens a lot with games from Daedalic Entertainment. They often offer some kind of bundle for multiple games on steam and if you own one of those game, you get credit for $100 instead of $20 for each game. Your level will temporarily go up and then drop back down after the sale.

Also, the only thing that affects your contributor value is the value of the games that you give away. You receive credit for the full value of the game if it has never been bundled or at least 95% off. The 95% off can be a bit tricky because if any region gets a discount that equates to at least 95% off of the US price, the game will be added to the bundle list. This happens a lot when a game is around 85% off and the Russian price after being converted to US dollars ends up being over 95% off.

If you give away a game that has been bundled any time in the past or has been discounted by at least 95%, it will be added to the bundle list and you will receive 15% of the games value.

This is what is know as your real CV. You can see what value you need to give away to reach each level here.

Also, there is a calculator on sgtools where you can enter your username (or anyone elses) in and see the value of all your giveaways and how close you are to reaching the next level. Link to sgtools

"Trading history" has nothing to do with giveaways.

If you give away games by Deadalic Entertainment, get ready to see your level fluctuate a lot. They tend to put one of their most expensive packs on a 90% discount all the time, which triggers an interesting reaction from the Steam API, telling that each and every game from that pack carries the pack's original 100+ dollar price tag. In return, during the promo, all Daedalic games from that pack cost 100 points to enter, and anyone who gave them away will get a significant boost in CV. In extreme cases you may earn more than 1.00 plus levels temporarily with this.

It's not just these games producing this effect (for example, Serious Sam is also often doing it), but Daedalic is the one to do it the msot often and affects the most titles at once.

Also, sometimes Steam API gets bug and some games could "cost" 0 (giving you 0 points)
