You are right, he probably should go to GMG first. They could then complain to EA that the batch of codes they got is faulty. EA probably would take that more seriously and it would go more smoothly all around.

Still, this support guy was ridiculously incompetent and/or EA has terrible policies.

The guy probably never heard of GreenManGaming, or EA does not have them listed in the system as an authorized reseller. I hear that some people were banned for saying they purchased their BF3 key from GMG, so there is likely a wider mix-up involved here.

Also a word of advice when dealing with customer service reps: being impatient, rude, and playing the blame game will get you nowhere. I can tell that guy greatly enjoyed getting the last jab in, and I sure don't blame him. Try working in customer service for a year, or know someone close who has, and your view of them will change completely.

I agree with your thought that the rep may not have known about GreenManGaming, especially since the OP called it GMG from the start. I am always very careful to clearly explain what I am talking about, rather than assuming that everyone will know some abbreviation or even a brand name. As someone that has worked in a job that required a lot of customer service, I hated people that presumed I should know what they were talking about when they used some relatively obscure name, phrasing, or abbreviation.

I do however blame the customer service guy here for having "enjoyed getting the last jab in." There are moronic, pain the ass customers for sure. Many times they have unreasonable expectations, or are themselves at fault either through a misunderstanding on their part or they have somehow damaged a product and expect compensation for it nonetheless. However, in this case, the OP, while a bit impatient, was generally trying to meet the requests of the customer service rep while explaining the situation and why some of the requests were impossible and illogical.

There are good customer service reps, and this was not one of them. If it is EA's policy to not take digital receipts, and he is not authorized to do anything more, he could have sympathized a bit and shown that he understood the silliness of the situation. Some of the blame of course falls on EA policies.

It's best to call EA if you want support.

If you MUST do live chat, then disconnect any time you see a foreign name. They will not help you. Keep reconnecting until you get an American.

A lot of my experience with EA support has been great. To condemn the entirety of their support staff because one guy doesn't have a clue is just wrong.

In all businesses, there are people who know what they're doing, and people that don't. You'll find that nearly everywhere.

but that is only when you get a third party steam key. If I get a valve key from a retailer that is redeemable on steam that is a different story. If they are the people who gave the retailer the key then they should be the ones to fix it. See Valve gives out the keys for their games. . But say we are, in your scenario, talking about Saints row the third then you are right. In my case it's Spore, which is a game distributed by EA meaning every key sold is handed out by them. They know what retailers are selling what and what keys they got. When you redeem a key on their Origin service they know where you bought it and for how much.

But it could be possible that the retailer gave you the wrong key in the first place in which case it would be there fault... not saying that's what happened in this case, just saying ^_^

yeah EA distributes the keys to the retailers . EA should fix the problem ulitmately (in case they really messed up the keys). But it should not be you contacting them, it should be GMG. They distribute the key to gmg , gmg distribute it to you. So you should contact gmg then gmg will contact EA to solve the problem.
EA support and you are not supposed to solve this problem, it should be GMG and EA.

Its not the need to insult anyone its the lack of support you get when you ask for it.
I preorderd FIFA 13 Ultimate edition and had not received one of my pre ordered packs for like 3 weeks.
I contacted them and they said sometimes your computer might not recognize the code that EA sends to the machine
and the pack disappears. "Yes I ll take that answer because Im a fuckn idiot who believes that shit". The only way I got my packs
was to as you say "insult them in the forums"

I had a problem with some games before but all were done from the first time of contacting them :)

and only couldn't be redeemed because they were old games that they mention in their FAQ page. I either contact them directly by chat or send a ticket and both got working in no time :D I love their support except someone is trying to steal my account and they couldn't do anything about it :(
