All discounts end today but on steam sites it is written that it end 3rd...

So when it actually ends?

It ends at Jan 3rd, when the daily deals finish, it'll be Jan 3rd and the sale is over.
Unless they're planning a secret encore... lol

TWD2 is the only of the 9 Dailys running this long, it will be the "daily of yesterday" for tomorrow since all daily deals run 48h in the last times.
Also all of them state "HOLIDAY SALE" and TWD states "DAILY DEAL"

That's what I said! Valve is at PST/PDT time, new daily deals always come in for me at 9:30 PM, which means tonight at 9:30PM Jan 2nd, sale is over! BUT it'll be Jan 3rd 00:00 on Valve's time!!

I'm not sure why the header says the 3rd, when even the original announcement points out that, 'The Steam Holiday Sale will run from now until 10AM PST, January 2nd.'

They just wanna force us to buy the missing one (in case you're card/badge/item collector and didn't sell them right after you get them)...

And since I'm in the same situation like you... I bought Civ V upgrade to compensate this void with an extra globe (for $10 spent on sale) :]

New Zealand and Australia will be 3rd Jan when the sale end, but USA will be 2nd Jan. They most likely have took that in account.

Use up your cards before they disappear. No more freebies from votes, and only some hours left until they are all gone.

Probably yes, but without those tasty 'mistakes' with 90+% sale (ie. for Don't starve), community choices and flash sales offers. So in this case available offers may not be so attractive as in regular sale days...

No, not every time. For example, this last Fall sale there was no encore sale. Not sure about this one but doesn't look like it will.

I guess that's because Fall sales are to short for encores.

I think all Summer/Winter sales had encores.

The final day should be the encore. Because it's only 2nd Jan 3am in US West Coast.

But the daily and flash deals says "new offers in xxxx hours", so I guess there'll be some kind of encore day.

The graphic on on the store says 'through Jan 3rd', so expect a 24-hour encore sale in about 7 hours.

I don't remember encore sales to have a side effect of removing literally every other deal on the site last time... Is this a glitch or is it for real?

Thankfully, I only wanted to buy 2 things on the last day, one of which at a whopping full price of 2 euros, but if I planned to do a big buy like in summer and this greeted me on the last day (when I bought everything I wanted), then I would have been royally pissed.

I'm not sure what you are talking about? It's been clearly visible the entire time the exact moment that any discounts that you may have been looking at end. Everything had a timer on it.

I was thinking the same. Was planning on cleaning up some games from my wishlist on the last day of the sale. So much for that!

Likewise, I assumed "normal" discounts would run through today. Oh well, will wait till summer for my intro to Splinter Cell, or just buy from Ubi (gasp).

I keep hoping that removing ALL of the deals aside from encore was a mistake. But the more time passes, the more I'm thinking this is for real.

It's not a mistake, so the last chance to buy any things you may have wanted was hours ago. Since the very beginning of the sale the general catalog timers were on a countdown to end at 10am PT (a little over an hour ago), which were visible on any product page of any item that was on sale. You and others seem to fail to pay close enough attention to the details.

I was banking on the GIANT banner on the front page that said the sale ended Jan 3rd. Call me crazy for not trusting the buried timers.

This your first sale? This is nothing new. And they are hardly buried. At any time during the entire winter sale you would have seen this by visiting any product page for any items that were on a general sale: HOLIDAY SALE! Offer ends Jan 2. As far as the banner goes it is technically correct -- there is an encore sale and it makes no claims about what is or isn't on sale.

Do you really have to be a douche about this? Here's a few reasons why people wouldn't know about this thing for a start:

  • People usually have a wishlist, and look at the prices there. They rarely visit all the game pages from there, because they operate on common sense, and the timers aren't on wishlists.
  • This is literally the first time they did something like this. I remember buying everything in the last 8 hours of the '13 summer sale, and not spending on them until I could be sure they would not go lower on a daily deal. Again, common sense, if you look forward to save some money and not spend blindly.
  • Sales last through to the 2nd of January, right. It's still the 2nd of January here, and will be for the next 3 hours from posting this. But that's beside the point, because apparently the encore sales are on the 2nd of Jan. too, "Valve time", so at the very best the dates for the sale were promoted in an easily misunderstandable way. There was no mention of an encore sale, so people expected regulars to stay on, and that didn't happen.
  • Even if someone went to see the timer on each page, they would probably not notice that it was supposed to end when it did. Not until they looked for that specific thing. With the fixed timeframe that can't have any exact dates rendered to it thanks to time zones, people would write it down as "oh, it's the 2nd of January there, and not in my timezone", wherever there is.
  • Since this is the first time they do it, it should hardly NOT come as a surprise. You just want people to look more stupid than you. Hope you succeed!
  • My God, why am I even explaining this.

Go play some Postal or Carmageddon games, that should help you chill a bit.

Yeah, Steam forums are on fire about this topic. I've given up hope on it being an error at this point, just poor advertising on Steam's part. There are quite a few comments saying that Steam has done this before, but I've been googleing the topic for a while and found nothing about this happening during the summer sale or previous winter sale.

Guilty as charged on the wishlist thing. I also should've paid attention to the timers.

But yeah, at the very least Valve made the message a bit confusing about the end time(s) on the sale.

Not the end of the world, for sure. They'll be on sale again. Well...except for the Activision stuff. Lol.

If you want to see it as being a douche then so be it. I was simply arguing with you because you (and others) are seemingly trying absolve yourselves of all accountability while putting the blame on someone else for your own lack of observation.

"It's never my fault, oh no that just couldn't be. Oh, no sir. No way!"

Oh and despite what your fruitless Google search may have yielded, it has been done this way before multiple times.

You may also wish to avoid shopping on Amazon as well because they tell you absolutely nothing about when a sale starts or ends -- at least not through official channels anwyay.

Actually in previous occasions when there was an Encore sale it was a day added after the sale.. not the last day of the sale. It is misleading to announce the sale being until the 3rd but actually ending the 2nd.

I knew that the Autumn sale didn't do this, I remembered waiting till the last day to clean up my wishlist. I just researched to make sure I wasn't crazy. There was no encore and all sales lasted till the end of the last day. Sorry, I don't remember what happened in previous sales as it's been wayyy to long. So yeah, again I trusted the GIANT banner as opposed to the little timers (knowing that Steam makes these little mistakes quite often).
