For those who are saying that this is good for scammers, are you aware that Steam still lists only the last 10 nicknames used and so it was easy to just change it 10 times, yes?

And then gives a list of 10 names, making everyone checking going 'yeah, let's dig deeper'.
Now you're pretty much forced to dig deep on anyone. Which is more timeconsuming and plenty of people don't really got any interest in that...
So yeah, it makes a difference.
(Also probably takes a little time for public awareness, time that can be used to do harm on many unaware people :/)

Nonsense. You had to check anyway to be sure, regardless of name history. Besides, it's not easy to impersonate someone these days as copying a profile has become more difficult due to badges, showcases, etc.
And let's not talk about honest traders that change names on a daily bases.

yes, that's the core, that's it.
I mean, there are also guides on how to put 9 "blank" aliases in order to see only one and the oter ones as empty lines, so..

You can only assign custom nicknames to your friends only. If you use it on other users who aren't friends it stays on till they change their name. I'm saying this from 1st hand experience as I once assigned the nickname "Dummkopf" to another user who (hadn't completed 1 year on Steam at the time of this incident) as he was bragging about how he's an achievement hunter, badge collector, excellent gamer, & some other shits like that & that's why Valve should pardon his first VAC infringement as he mistakenly used cheat injectors in L4D2 online. After reading his complaint & discussing some things with him we understood he was a little touched & so forth I assigned him the nickname.
After a few days, I saw him with a new nickname & my assigned nickname was removed from his own (as I mostly use the append option instead of the replace option). I could track him down as I saved his profile by his Steam 64 ID instead of his custom URL.

yes, that's awesome! I used it 2 days ago!!
well, there were already lots of guides on how to make them blank..
anyways Valve received like 200000 tickets mails etc. every day asking this thing ahahah xD
I used the same name since I subscribed to steam and since I played world of warcraft but it's a great option 'cos I can clear my [away --] "aliases" that I put to tell people, traders etc. that i'm away from my pcs, they tended to become a 10 names list too long and useless after the periods have passed
very nice addition in my view

how am i supposed to tell people i'm depressed/alone/crying/useless/antisemitic/afk/studying/eating/out if i can't keep a name history?
damn you valve for allowing me to delete it ;_;
good for scammers though, thanks admin valve for your continued stupid and useless updates! ^^

Valve seems to really like adding controversial features...which begs the question; How much longer before people can make reviews that are neutral instead of positive or negative (a LOT of people seem to want that).

Haha, I never said Steam's gonna last forever till the end of time. All I said that was GabeN's never gonna pull the plug.
Also, I can't say about you, but I, in my mid--30s, am pretty confident Valve/Steam's gonna stand the test of time for the remainder of my natural life.
Yes, there'll be changes (both large & small) in its system, some the users will agree with & some they won't agree with but it'll go on.

This was most likely done to comply with some new privacy laws. How it's Valves problem if you get scammed trading shady grey market keys? They can't and won't stop people from doing it, but understand that it's at your own risk when trading.

Worst chanve so far: Now it is easier for trade scammers to hide their tracks especially for the ones, that dont know sites like steamrep.com etc.

Just found out they've added the option. Hurray!
As someone who accidentally deleted last letter from his username, saved the changes, and found out only a month later, I'm more than happy I could finally delete it :) It drove me crazy :)
