why do you love puzzles so much?
Bump, first part solved (actually I spent less than 5 minutes), second part is too hard for me... for now ;)

Bah, been stuck on this cipher for far too long, considering I'm fairly certain I know exactly which ciphers to use x.x

Caught the hint, and I have the ciphers figured out, just not getting any useful output from them

I figured as much, I do believe I saw the clue alluding to what to do, just been fiddling with it for ages trying to find just what works xD

Hah, I did a lot of research on it last night, and had my brother (a programmer) explain it to me xD

well you probably don't have the right cipher then? I'm not sure. I guess it could be more complicated for some people to understand. It is a pretty simple cipher that uses basic substitution. Maybe you can add me on steam and tell me which cipher it is? I will confirm if it is right or not.

thanks for letting me know, I used google translate to translate it back and forth to try and make sure it was right, but it is google translate, so we never know how accurate it is :)
I had to manually scramble that phrase since the scrambler I was using didn't recognize the characters and I was told I spelled the word kitten in Russian :P

Lol, that kitty is so cute, though. But I can't let it distract me from figuring out the ciphers.
I'm not very good at these, though, I thought I might have figured out the first one, but I really have no idea what I'm doing, lol, I don't think I picked up whatever hint there is.

yeah I wanted to make it a challenge for the people that do puzzles regularly, but it sucks for new or certain people because it can be too hard. I tend to give up on puzzles too early myself, but I tried to add enough hints to help out.
The first cipher is hinted at and should be easy to tell which one to use. The problem most people have is the way you use it is not so straight forward. There is something you have to do to the info you enter into the cipher based on the way the cipher works and as indicated by the video hint :)

OMG, I got it right before you sent this. I guess I was right about the ciphers. :)
But, yeah, that got me tripped up, but that makes it feel even better when you figure it out. :D

It was meant to be hard. I wasn't sure exactly how hard it would be though. My other puzzle was super easy. I do this to test the waters I guess... see what is too easy and what is too hard :)
I did give plenty of hints though and there is still plenty of time for others to solve! Only 6 entries still.

Cant solve the second part, got the cypher clue so I know at least one cypher but still cant get it, will the be more hints?

Hello and than you for the opportunity to join your giveaway. I have a question since im rather new to all this. When I have the 5 digits the link would need to be like this correct? http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/digits/GA
Comment has been collapsed.
Correct, and as long as both slashes are there /xxxxx/ it doesn't matter what is at the end. What I usually do is open up a random GA in another tab, copy the 5 characters for the one you need to go to and then double click the characters of the other GA you just opened in the address bar (it should highlight just the 5 charcters), then click paste and then enter. If it's correct it will take you to the GA page and if not it just takes you to steamgifts homepage.
steamgifts.com/giveaway/XXXXX/the text here after the slash does not matter

ive worked up a pretty good headache and a bit of disappointment so time to call it for the night, seems not possible to arrive at the answer in 2 steps and im missing one bit of information, do you have to guess a part of it or is all the info needed derived from the first puzzle answer?
i hear tacobell calling me to sooth my aching mind and spirit
Comment has been collapsed.
yes, i mean it makes sense, its just not playing out that way and somehow i feel like i have to use more than two ciphers, or im counting one thats not really being used cause i feel like im using it... its complicated for sure
Comment has been collapsed.
there are only 2 ciphers used, I stated that up there. Any more than that would have been really complicated unless I specified which ones specifically
and both ciphers should be pretty obvious which ones you have to use if you find the right ones.

mind if i add you on Steam and tell you which two im using?

got the ITH on the first guess (it jumped out at me) but no clue on the ciphertext after a few hours of brain wracking.
I am familiar with cryptanalysis, various ciphers, enigma machine etc. but I guess the clues are going over my head. I'm probably making it more complicated than it really is.
GJ to those who solved it! ;)

I'm probably making it more complicated than it really is.
that seems to be the case for at least a few people that have solved it :P and a few of them actually solved it a different way than what I expected
If you find the clue to which cipher to use, that is the easy part. It is really the only cipher you should find, but to get it to work you just have to make a small change to the data you input. You just won't know if it works until you then enter the output into the other cipher and see if it gives you the final info you need :)

A puzzled bump from me. :)
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but are there two ciphers after the puzzle, or is the puzzle in itself one cipher already? If you feel like telling that is, unless you think that would make it too easy.
Nevermind that question. Still am puzzled as to how to continue after the puzzle solving though...
I narrowed it down to two choices on how to use the puzzle result, but neither seem to get me any closer to where ever I would end up after that step... :-\

Thank you. For some reason I can't figure out though which is the passphrase and which is the text to decode...
PS: I assume the puzzle result would be the passphrase, but all my changing and trying didn't help yet to come up with helpful results for the next step, which ever that would be...

Bump to cover up for my selfishness of wanting the entries to remain low. :P

Well I finally made the puzzle, I was going to try to make a intricate well-thought out puzzle with lots of questions/answers and loops/dead ends... But I am too lazy for that and I couldn't seem to figure out what I wanted. So here is the simplified version of what I had planned. It is probably going to be pretty difficult.
I might give hints if there aren't enough solvers. Actually I will probably give hints becauseI'm such a nice person :) There are now hints, and you will definitely need zelgh's guide which won't actually help you until you get through the puzzle.Level Req: Level 1+ (for dying light?!) I wanted to make at least part of it easy:)
Game: Dying Light
GA ends: Nov. 9th
Rules:
first rule of fight club is that we don't talk about fight clubsecond rule of fight clu..Sorry I think I copied the wrong rule list... I think you know the rules :) No sharing hints/answers/links etc... etc..
Have fun!!?
Solution:
Sorry I took so long, I went out of town for a bit and didn't have time to post the solution right away.
The puzzle answer was 'too many secrets' which was found by either using a specific anagram solver from google search or if you understood the picture hints for secrets you could then take the remaining letters and make 'too many' out of them. (The sneakers picture was just to show what movie it was from called Sneakers(if you searched for secrets+sneakers on google it would also allow you to find the anagram/solution).
The puzzle revealed a Base64 code that would not reveal anything, that is why I hinted that you need to decode it first using another cipher.
I put passphrase in bold on the puzzle to indicate the other cipher used, and to hint at the passphrase needed by saying "unscramble the passphrase". The only cipher that I know of that specifically asks for a passphrase is Vigenère cipher, which would come up if you search google for passphrase+ cipher. There is also the OTP cipher that basically works just like Vigenère but has different passphrase rules and does not specifically ask for a passphrase but it would also work in this specific case (both of these are linked on Zelgh's guide)
So if you decode FofchOE= using Vigenère with the passphrase "secrets", you get NkdldVM= which then would decode using Base64 to give you the 5 letter GA code 6GeuS. The reason the passphrase is "secrets" and not "too many secrets" is just based on how the cipher works and that is why I suggested reading about it on the wiki if you were stuck at that point.
Basically the passphrase only needs to be as long as the phrase being decoded (or shorter), so "too many secrets" would be too long and includes spaces, which do not count anyways.
