South Park: The Stick of Truth and THQ Montreal Purchased by Ubisoft; Take Two Purchases Evolve; Crytek Purchases Homeworld; Deep Silver purchases Volition (Saints Row) and Metro; SEGA takes Relic (Warhammer & Company of Heros)

Personally, I think Ubisoft is a decent game dev even if Uplay is annoying. Hopefully THQ Montreal will merge with Ubisoft Montreal, the guys that made Far Cry 3.

Evolve was taken by Take Two, nobody really knows what it is though as it is currently unannounced.

Crytek took Homefront, which seems to me a good match.

Deep Silver, the guys that published Risen and Dead Island, took the Metro franchise and Volition (Saints Row). This one seems like a poor match, and I really don't have much confidence in Deep Silver.

SEGA has a bunch of experience with strategy games due mainly to the Total War franchise, so hopefully their purchase of Relic will work out.

A bunch of devs from Vigil (Darksiders) are currently looking for jobs so I don't really have high hopes for them.

Vigil (Darksiders) and the WWE franchise have yet to be sold.

Deep Silver plans to take full control of the Saints Row and Metro franchises, rather than leaving SR with Volition. Source

According to IGN there are rumors that WWE will go to Take Two.

Plantinum Games (Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising) seems to be interested in the Darksiders franchise. I would be extremely happy if they were the ones to buy it. Source

UPDATE: Apparently Homeworld was not included with Runic, and currently there is a fundraiser on indiegogo "Save Homeworld"

Prices:

  • $500k Homefront (Crytek)
  • $26M for Relic (Sega)
  • $2.5M for THQ Montreal (Ubisoft)
  • $3.2M for South Park (Ubisoft)
  • $11M for Evolve (Take-Two)
  • $22.3M for Volition (Koch Media)
  • $5.8M for Metro (Koch Media)

Not really content with SEGA having control over the CoH franchise.

Why not? SEGA owns Creative Assembly and they do pretty well with the Total War games.

Apples and Oranges... Sega also have horrible marketing practices as shown with their recent youtuber debacle.

Also Total War's contract was created a lllllonnnnnggg time ago is is a very different kettle of fish for a company to look at than CoH or DoW. Much more successful and they keep on using the same engine with updates to the technology to keep costs down.
Very different game.

There really couldn't be a better fit... SEGA seems the most likely to just let Relic alone to do what Relic wants to do. While they may keep screwing up their own stuff, they're ace at letting the smaller studios they own just do their own thing.

This also means there's a small chance of some sort of absurd SEGA RTS in the future.

Yeah, I hear they are scraping Company of Heroes 2 and replacing it with Company of Hedgehogs.

Besides Total War, they don't have much of a presence in the strategy market. I just hope they'll let Relic do their thing and not use the CoH franchise as their playing ground to test out things for future installments. To be honest, I'd rather have a smaller company like Paradox have control over the IP, even though they probably wouldn't have the funds to buy Relic, but they have earned themselves a strong standing among strategy gamers.

THERE IS HOPE FOR DARKSIDERS! (maybe not for Vigil though)

https://twitter.com/PG_inaba/status/294234427452694528

Google Translation: "Seriously "DARKSIDERS" in the auction sale of THQ Studio & IP rose I remained unsold. Cheap ... I want to buy ..."

He is the head of Platinum Games who is known for Bayonetta and the upcoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Seeing as Homefront sold for $500,000 and Darksiders 1&2 sold less combined, it would certainly be a cheap purchase as he states.

And not only that, but Platinum games would totally do justice to Darksiders if Vigil is gone for good as well. I hope this happens.

UPDATED from a link I saw:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/24/platinum-games-considering-buying-darksiders-ip#disqus_thread

So not only is Platinum interested in buying the IP, someone from Platinum reached out to the lead designer of Darksiders (2, I believe?) with a possible job offer. This is EXTREMELY exciting if it actually happens. Darksiders may not be dead yet, and some of Vigil may even get the shot to work on it.

They were developed by Volition, but I haven't heard anything specifically about the series. Only Saints Row gets mentioned when Volition is brought up. That could be why their acquisition was so much more than the rest.

For everyone complaining about the acquisition of Metro what are you worried about? THQ was just the publisher. They didn't develop the game and don't own the rights to the game either. With how far done Metro is at this point I don't see how Deep Silver could fuck it up.

Deep Silver mentioned that they plan to take full control over the franchises. I'm guessing by that they mean they want a bigger say in the development of future installments, leaving the actual developers with less control.

Platinum Games Inc. will maybe buy Darksiders. This is what the boss had to say on twitter (google translate) @PG_Inaba.
latest news from twitter account:

  • Remarks concerning the "Darksiders", I have received a large number of reflections (mostly overseas). There is some hope rebuke, I think Thankfully anyway. I comment all over again, for this review.
  • Thank you for all the messages about what I said regarding Darksiders. I hope to say more in the future.
As a real fan of Darksiders, I really hope the boss of PlatinumGames will pick this one up.

Shame about Homeworld 3, it's all being bogged down in shady fund-raising and the IP owner isn't even clear.
