Who'll win the war?
gamers will decide. :) its depend on mass behaviors of gamers who purchase in on one game. so developer should know sell unit on steam and just figure estimate sell copy on first year x market share = max revenue so they go that way.

I'm happy about this. Not because I use the Epic store or am interested in the game but because it might make Valve think again about the ecosystem they have created. There's so much uncurated cheap crap in the store now that I can understand a company for refusing to be a part of it of the competition provides a decent alternative.

Do you think developers go away to Epic launcher because of cheap crap in Steam store?

You can always play PC games with 1024 x 768/1080p and shitty effects and graphics quality to play the game like on PS4 or Xbox One, so high specs isn't the issue for those who played/play console releases.

They will regret it.. just like Thronebreaker did bad while on GoG only

Metro is big enough to have some popularity on Epic Store too. But basically this means they will earn something more from 88-12% epic store split and something less from occasional buyer who would buy it only on steam. And there's a big possibility the latter is more than the first one. And if Metro Exodus will fail so will do Epic Store...

I think this will be bigga fail. Pll don't want to use Epic Launcher only cause of Metro:Exodus. Sales will be lower, the biggest mistake from that company.
I'm not gonna buy it until it will be available on Steam :)

Smart people won't support Epic Games, cause they are against gamers and all good rules. They bribed Metro's pubs two weeks before the premiere. It's unforgivable. And they want to monopolize the market for themselves. The pre-sales was launched long before that happens and they suddenly made such a move?
And what You wrote is not true. Nobody made such a thing before. Nobody aprted ways from Steam. Just because EA made a game that is their creation and made it exclusive for Origin or Ubisoft did the same with Uplay doesn't mean they did the same. They never monopolyzed the market. And they have right to make their own games on their own platforms. Even though I hate exclusives, Iwill protect EA and Ubi (etc) for their exclusives cause they are justified. Epic Games doesn't own Metro and they just bribed the publisher. This is not okay.
Also making games for new platform is bad. I don't need yet another poorly made platform that wants to compete with Steam client and fails. This should be prohibited. I am FOR every game being on every platform. No exclusives. 100% competition.

I can wait, when it comes 2020 on Steam. :)
Because I must complete the other Metro games first.^^

They have to start somewhere. And if it is "stealing" or not, that is only one point of view. Other people might think about it as a "marketing move", maybe not a move fans of Metro do like, but it gives them a lot of attention.
Steam did similar things in the beginning. I remember the days, when i bought games in a shop as "boxed" version, and after putting the CD in my computer, i did not find any installer and the full game on the CD, but only the steam-installer and a key and a short instruction how to download a game on steam. And when they started to make games to become "online only" although they were single player games with local savegames. Many people were annoyed by steam's always on strategy and their userdata gathering also wasn't getting them fans in the beginning.
That wasn't a nice start with steam in that days too. Steam was very hated in the beginning, it has become everybody's lovely friend over the years, but it started with harsh and rude marketing moves too.
I am not a best friend of any of these companies. They are services that i use neutrally, without any emotions to any of these companies. They are not our best friends, that need our protection or fan engagement. They are billion dollar businesses, that were made to gather income from us users. And if there is no real competition between different companies, they get lazy and fat and stop improving and have no reasons to make good deals. So a new Competitor might be good for us as customers.

They have to start somewhere.
It's already 2019 and there are multiple stores out there competing (but I don't see any actual effort to outdo Steam). They could have just looked at them and see what works what doesn't and what people want.
Valve didn't have such advantage.
But Epic decided it would be wise to ship a featureless store/launcher and go with bullshit exclusives. Did Tencent tell them to do that, because that would work in China?
Proper competition would be, if they were competing in what additional value does their platform add. Not this bullshit exclusives. How is Steam supposed to react to exclusives? More exclusives? This doesn't lead to any proper competition. They could just jack the prices up for their set of exclusive games, since there is no competition selling those games.

Yea I bought the Orange Box when it first came out at retail and was pretty pissed finding out I had to use an online service to play my single player games from it. Took almost 10 years before I touched steam again (basically my entire library was bought from 2016 onward).

Im amazed how Deep Silver, after all the crap they have pulled, isnt even a recognizable name for gamers to direct criticism towards the real culprit

Epic steals Metro Exodus from Steam
Well Steam has been popular and people have been loyal to steam but 2019 may mark a beginning of turning point in Game Launcher history as many exclusive titles and companies slowly part ways.

What are your thoughts considering the lack of features on epic as of now, will they come close to steam in this battle and maybe overthrow them eventually?
